The other is there was truly a hue and cry throughout the land about his Roman Catholic religion. People were sure the Pope would have an influence on the running of the country. It was said that old ladies in some protestant churches were openly weeping about an imagined RC takeover, etc. My Mom, and her quilting circle, was one of them.
I hope we can stay on the issues and ability to govern.
Had JFK lived, who knows what the influence of the Catholic church might have had on him...also, did JFK make s solem oath to his church as Romney has,
"You and each of you covenant and promise before God, angels, and these witnesses at this altar, that you do accept the law of consecration as contained in this, the book of Doctrine and Covenants [he displays the book], in that you do consecrate yourselves, your time, talents, and everything with which the Lord has blessed you, or with which he may bless you, to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for the building up of the kingdom of God on the earth and for the establishment of Zion.
This vow is made by every "worthy" mormon who takes part in their temple ritual. Haven't seen evidence that JFK ever took an oath like that.
BTW, this is an "issue" that should be recognized.
A couple of things, I remember well when Kennedy was running for president, everyone knew he was a philander, just like all the other Kennedy’s.
I don’t remember anyone weeping at the prospects of a Catholic being president, people were upset it was a democrat who was going to win.
Huge difference bewteen JFK’S Run and Romney’s in relationship to their church.
Mormons believe fully Romney will be the Mormon “King” ...and so does he.....that’s why he and they will spare no expense on getting him into office.....Catholics nor the Pope saw JFK that way and neither did he.
