The daughter-in-law of Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman, who has served as a volunteer high school track and field coach in Oregon, was fired on Monday after an investigation proved that she escorted a 17-year-old member of her boys track squad to the school's prom.

As reported by the Associated Press, 41-year-old Melissa Bowerman, the daughter-in-law of waffle-sole inventor Bill Bowerman, escorted an unnamed 17-year-old on the Condon (Ore.) High track team to the school's prom after the runner told her he lacked a date for the prom. Bowerman, who is married to 73-year-old co-coach Jon Bowerman and also has a son on the same team, told the AP that she offered to take the student to prom in part to motivate him to improve his grades in his English class.

She’s married to a 71 year old and dating 17 year olds. Talk about playing the field.

Did they make waffle pattern tread marks on her a$$ as she was kicked out the door?

She took the student to the prom to motivate him “to improve his English grades”. Ummmm.... is that some sort of code or what? Is that what they are calling it these days?!!

I don’t think this is THAT kind of story. When did Prom turn into anything more than a school dance?

She's dyslexic, she thought the boy was 71 also.

“When did Prom turn into anything more than a school dance?”

The prom is suppose to be for the Junior and Senior students at the school and their dates. I am thinking the key word is “dates”.

As I said above, I don’t think this was THAT kind of story. Everything was on the up and up, if you read the story. She didn’t take him into the locker room in secret. Her husband was aware of the “date”, and the prom is public. Her own son was there and is on the same team. People should get their minds out of the gutter.

Just saw this on TV. Appears to have been completely innocent, with full consent of her husband and the boy’s parents. A deputy assigned to investigate found nothing improper, just bad judgment.

My husband and I attended our daughter’s prom because she was chosen to sing. Teachers often attend the prom (at least they did in my day).

Brain dead school board.

She did a nice thing, supported by her husband and the boys parents, and they fire her. She might even have boosted the boys confidence around girls, and in a way that does not appear on a police blotter.

Mary Kay LeTourneau this is not...

Cool. She wasn't being paid. Now the school can pay someone to do a worse job! Unions win, taxpayers lose! The Obamanation is back in harmony.
