Times-Picayune to Cut Paper to 3 Days a Week
ABC News ^ | May 24, 2012 | Cain Burdeau

The Times-Picayune, one of the nation's oldest newspapers, is dropping its daily circulation after 175 years and plans to issue three printed editions a week starting in the fall. With the change, the newspaper would become the largest metro newspaper in the nation to drop daily circulation in this digital age.

The paper announced Thursday the formation of a new company, the NOLA Media Group, to oversee both The Times-Picayune and its affiliated website, NOLA.com.

The cutback in publication days follows similar moves made by other newspapers as the industry has struggled through economic tough times, in part caused by consumers' move to online media.

Now their news will be two days old instead of yesterday's. Beginning of the end for this paper.

“...as the industry has struggled through economic tough times, in part caused by consumers’ move to online media.”

...but mostly the MSM endorsement of anti-capitolistic politicians.

How will they deal with the comics section? Some popular comics have ongoing story lines (e.g. Luann, Dilbert, Mary Worth).

I know there are suburbs, but come on! How can a town (not city) this size warrant a real newspaper?

Had I known that was posted I wouldn’t have posted this. I searched on this headline and on Times-Picayune and found nothing.

I can remember when the “Times-Picayune” bought the “States-Item” years ago.

What a mess down there. It will never recover from Katrina.

Because much of the population can't read, can't write and can't speak understandable english?

Common sense would have had second-tier newspapers shrinking page count to fit their circulation instead of trying to compete with the big boys back in the 80’s. Instead of trying to be the NY Post all the smaller newspapers had to be the same size as the major dailies and look where it got them. Now they should be shrinking, even offering a different edition for those who want focus on sports or business or even conservatives.

but no, they’d rather go bankrupt.

The MSA is over 1.3 million. The loss of this paper is a serious blow to the entire community.

No reason not post your article. I was only linking it to the other because there were lots of additional links within that thread. It had fallen off the screen so wasn’t getting any play.
