Pratt & Whitney officials said the company was eliminating 300 positions nationwide, and 200 of them are coming from Connecticut.
The announcement was made Thursday morning.
Company officials said they continually assess staffing levels to ensure they are on track with the current business and economic condition.
They said when it's necessary, staffing adjustments are required to keep cost structures competitive.
As a result, company officials said Pratt & Whitney was reducing its salaried workforce by approximately 300 positions company-wide, effective immediately.
After the announcement was made on Thursday, Gov. Dannel Malloy released a statement and said, "When these announcements are viewed in the context of our overall economy, it's still clear we are moving in the right direction. The unemployment rate is down 20% from last January, and it's a full half-point below the national average."

That damn George Bush!
Then let's really move it in the right direction come November, and put every DumicRAT out of office and unemployed.
UConn’s Economic Outlook report, announced today:
“employment growth will be weak, creating only about 35,000 jobs in the next two years. The state announced last week that Connecticut’s workforce of 1.6 million lost 4,100 jobs in April”
Fact is, Connecticut is a crappy place to manufacture stuff. Our electric rates are padded with subsidies for useless wind farms. Our unions have our politicians in their back pockets. Our taxes are sky high in order to prop up a corrupted public pension system. Our transportation infrastructure is as it was built in the 1950s. Pratt would be nuts to invest their money and time here beyond what has already been invested based on the lousy climate our one-party state has created. Its a miracle they make a profit with one foot stuck in this cesspool.
Governor Malloy must have gotten into his son’s weed before he released that statement.
Those people in Connecticut can all get jobs in the tourism industry that the governor spent 27 million bucks advertising.
“So you’re one of the Connecticut state tour guides.....how do I get to OLD FAITHFUL?”
“Sir, you’re in Connecticut. OLD FAITHFUL is in Yellowstone National Park.”
“Is that by Hartford?”
“No, Sir, and there are no buffalo here, either.”
“I know that, wiseguy. Buffalo is in New York.....right next to Yosemite.”
Ah, but you will have that nifty, new bus-way pretty soon. That ought to attract tons of new business.
I work at P&W as a contractor.
Last year Pratt was prevented from moving a 1000 union engine refurbishing jobs out of state by Blumenthal.
It’s good that Malloy will get the blame.
This is the same company that was successfully sued by then state attorney general, now U.S. Senator, Blumenthal and were forced to stay in Connecticut.
With the Taxation levels in Connecticut i’m really surprised that Pratt and Whitney has not pulled up it’s roots and moved elseware.
They sure do like like they’re heading in that direction.I would’nt be surprised to see Electric Boat go right behind them.
