After the Lilly Ledbetter Act passed in Congress and was signed into law, President Obama and Senate Democrats were self-congratulatory. We passed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act -- the first bill I signed -- so that equal pay for equal work is a reality all across this country," Obama said, praising himself and his colleagues. "We are very proud of legislation we have passed … to guarantee gender pay equity with the Lilly Ledbetter law," Democratic senator Ben Cardin said, offering himself and Democrats more praise. Senator Jeanne Shaheen, also a Democrat, likewise offered congratulations to herself: "I am proud of what we have been able to accomplish so far… the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which ensures that all Americans are paid the same regardless of age, gender, race, or ethnicity."
Nevertheless, with an election coming in November and with Republicans supposedly waging a war on women, the pay equity Lilly Ledbetter bill does not appear to have been enough--even for these very same Democrats.
The next battle on Capitol Hill for Democrats will again be to use this women's issue for political gain.
The first stop will be to bring another pay equity bill to the Senate floor. As Senate majority leader Harry Reid, a Democrat, said yesterday on Capitol Hill, "Madam President, it is almost universally acknowledged that Republican obstructionism has reached new heights in the Senate… We could be considering the Paycheck Fairness Act, ensuring American women receive equal pay for equal work."
One wonders, of course, if the Lilly Ledbetter bill was so great, why would they need to do this drill all over again?
It's a way to raise support and funds, a senior Senate Republican aide explains. And it's cynical and destructive.

Every time the word ‘fairness’ is mentioned, you know a general downgrade in things targeted is coming.
When you can not ‘reason’ why there are differences exist in nature/things, they use ‘fairness’ to force unnatural rules onto everybody.
I am sorry, not getting this “fair pay” law. Hasn’t this been the law for decades? Well, except in congress were we now know that democrats pay their female staff less than the men.
A group of Democratic female senators on Wednesday declared war on the so-called “gender pay gap,” urging their colleagues to pass the aptly named Paycheck Fairness Act when Congress returns from recess next month.
However, a substantial gender pay gap exists in their own offices, a Washington Free Beacon analysis of Senate salary data reveals.
Of the five senators who participated in Wednesday’s press conference — Democrats Barbara Mikulski of Maryland, Patty Murray of Washington, Debbie Stabenow of Michigan, Dianne Feinstein of California and Barbara Boxer of California — three pay their female staff members significantly less than male staffers.

The Equal Pay Act of 1963 bans discrimination in pay for women doing the same job as a man.
Why does no one ever mention that law?
Why does no one ever mention, that if pay discrimination is still such a problem in this country, that Obama and Holder already have the law, and legal tools, on their side to fight such discrimination?
We don’t need another law, if this issue is still really a problem. We just need to enforce the laws already on the books.
Why does no one ever say that this is a pointless, meaningless debate?
The whole "equal pay" issue is bogus, in that it revolves around demanding "equal pay" for jobs that may not be equal. If somebody is being paid more because he's willing to go on trips to wherever on zero notice, or is willing to work late hours when needed, then that should not result in an "equal pay" lawsuit.
True. The Ledbetter Act has to do with time limits on filing discrimination lawsuits. It’s really on the periphery of the “equal pay for women” issue. Yet the Obamabots tout it as some giant stride for equal pay for women.
Some liberals talk about “comparative worth” in jobs, as something that we need new laws or lawsuits to deal with. For example, they may say that a secretary has comparative worth to a maintenance worker. If maintenance workers are paid more, then they claim discrimination, because most maintenance workers are men, while almost all secretaries are women. That sort of thing could be the new frontier of discrimination claims in our future.
Absolute demagogic posturing. This has been law for decades and does nothing new. But it illustrates how liberals are using their elected positions as nothing more than stages from which to preen for selected demographics and secure re-election.
Results never matter to the left, it’s the processes that make them feel good motivating them
Next they will be calling for “reparations” to back pay all them wimmin that suffered low-wage discrimination for so long..
