Doctors report rise in kids eating detergent packs

Miniature laundry detergent packets arrived on store shelves in recent months as an alternative to bulky bottles and messy spills. But doctors across the country say children are confusing the tiny, brightly colored packets with candy and swallowing them.

His kids had put it in the fridge and he thought it was grape drink!

Reasonable solution is for those households with small children; who cannot be watched; or cannot keep these pods 'high/dry' from children:

. . .buy detergent in the box!

Leave the fool-the-eye detergent; for the 'otherwise or 'does not apply' - consumers.

Swell! Something very convenient for me and I may lose it because some parents are too stupid to keep this stuff away from kids. Now, I’ll get off my soapbox and concede these things DO look like gum or candy and maybe a different packaging is in order. The ones I use are dye/perfume free and are clear and not tempting at all and I STILL keep them on the shelf above my washer.

When I was a little kid, my older brother and I would follow our dad into the bathroom in the morning and watch him shave and go through his morning routine, which he completed by getting a solo cup and wrinsing his mouth. I was insanely jealous of my older brother because he could reach the solo-cup dispenser and the sink and mimic dad while I could not.

One night, wanting to show that I was fully capable, I retrieved a a solo cup from the trash, then dipped it into a plastic bucket of "water" my mom had sitting in the bath tub. My plan was to walk down the steps swigging from my solo cup showing I was a big guy too. Anyways, the "water" in the tub was a dilute Clorox mixture in which my mom was soaking my little sister's (cloth) diapers.

One good swig of Clorox/water and diaper detritus pretty much fixed me. Never tried it again.
