MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX (CBS ATLANTA) -
An honor student in Texas was thrown in jail after she missed too many classes at her high school.
A judge issued Diane Tran, 17, a summons Wednesday for her excessive truancy after she missed class. She was arrested in open court.
Last month, Tran was issued a warning by the judge for missing school.
Tran said she works both full-time and part-time jobs, in addition to taking advanced and college level courses.
But the judge said Tran's case was bigger than the individual situation of one student.
"If you let one run loose, what are you gonna' do with the rest of 'em?," said Judge Lanny Moriarty. "Let them go too? A little stay in the jail for one night is not a death sentence."

This is a case where it wouldn’t be murder at all ~ some folks just deserve it.

The judge is a useless asshole. This kid probably has 10 times the ability of the worthless judge.
Wasting his time in a govt school.
Now if only we could edit this judge.
No doubt the judge had his own young’ns aborted.

I was just thinking that, too. Is there a place to donate to her college fund? Maybe that would help her escape from high school sooner. Or at least help encourage her to use one of the alternatives.
He’s overenforcing Socialist rules. Texas went through a long dark period of rule by Democrats ~ they aren’t quite over it.

Someone give Governor Perry a call to pardon this gal and expunge her arrest record.
Then the governor needs to order the judge to take a psychological exam with the results published.
A record will put the student’s scholarships in jeopardy. Is there a pro bono attorney out there to help this honor student????????

Sure it is. The kid isn’t on government benefits; he being self dependent. That’s running loose.

Did anyone in your staff try to learn why this young woman missed so many days of class? Did you give a damn? Did you make any effort to help?
It said she is taking care of a younger sister. What are the chances the child care people have already taken the sister and put her in a foster home? In my town there are have official people like this judge who are just itching for a chance to take these Vietnamese kids down a peg or two for outclassing the Judge/commissioner/mayor/etc.’s kids
This is really infuriating!
If she had been a welfare queen they would have showered her in benefits courtesy of the taxpayers.
