Bob Schieffer Laughs Out Loud After Playing Video of Obama Bragging About His Accomplishments

CBS's Bob Schieffer certainly wasn't in an Obama-loving mood Sunday.

CBS's Bob Schieffer certainly wasn't in an Obama-loving mood Sunday.

Having asked the President's senior campaign adviser "Whatever happened to hope and change" early in the program, the Face the Nation host in a subsequent segment laughed out loud after playing a clip of Obama bragging about his accomplishments on 60 Minutes last year (video follows with transcript and commentary):

MRC TV video player

BOB SCHIEFFER, HOST: I want to play a little something for you. I think one of the lessons that probably all of us recognize is that if you-- I've wrote a book once about Ronald Reagan it came out the month that he was-- that George Bush was inaugurated. The book, I-- I think, everything in the book is accurate, but it is not entirely true, because we didn't know at that time that the Soviet Union was going to fall in. I don't give credit-- Reagan credit, total credit for that but certainly his policies had a part in it. I think you really run a risk when you start trying to judge a presidency--

MICHAEL DUFFY, TIME MAGAZINE: Too soon.

BOB SCHIEFFER: --too soon. I want to run this. This is what Barack Obama last December told Steve Kroft of 60 MINUTES. I want to get your reaction to it.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: I would put our legislative and foreign policy accomplishments in our first two years against any President, with the possible exceptions of Johnson, FDR and Lincoln, but, you know, just in terms of what we've got and done in modern history.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BOB SCHIEFFER: So [laughs] as incumbent Presidents often do they give themselves good reviews. Can anyone say even in the middle of a presidency this is going to be a successful or an unsuccessful presidency?

Yeah, there were plenty of Americans who thought this was pretty funny when it first aired last December.

What wasn't funny was how the clip Schieffer played Sunday wasn't included in the actual 60 Minutes broadcast.

As NewsBusters reported at the time, Obama's boastful remarks were only available at the CBS website.

Maybe it's because a lot of people at CBS besides Schieffer thought they were too hysterical to share with the television public.

Given Schieffer's on-air reaction almost six months later, can you blame them?

OK let’s see here. According to you, Romney is SO bad a candidate that the Obama sycophants think ridiculing Obama on network TV is acceptable.

Do I have that right?

And if Romney is such a poor choice from the public’s point of view, why then is he supported by 87% of rep and a wide majority of Ind, according to Gallup?

Are you one of the folks who will stay home in Nov?

You know all the scandal which surrounded the Clinton’s has been well documented and is easily available to all.

I don’t care how high her favorables are now. Once a campaign starts and all the Clinton scandals again are made public it will be a different story entirely.

likely destination either Chicago or Hawaii

I'll say Hawaii. I'm sure he wants his daughters to be able to have all the Hawaiian Choom Gang bud they can inhale. He wants them to be presidential material, you know what I mean?

"I swear, sometimes I hate coming here to read posts like this. Good lord, you do think everything is some liberal conspiracy."

I am a very long time lurker on this siteand have only recently decided to give myself voice, mostly because this is such an important election. As far as I am concerned it is the most important in my lifetime of over 60 yrs. I also have noticed many here seem to give the Left mystical powers which can get them all they want. These sort of people will believe always the very worst about our candidate as it is brought out by the opposition. Each "crisis" as reported by the lib media will automatically cost us the election and no qualifications our nominee has are ever good enough because somehow the libs will prevail. It is as if these people are deliberately attempting to destroy enthusiasm on our side.

He’s laughing because Obama is trying to rank himself with Lincoln.

Dear Political Neophytes:

It is obvious to even old school commies in the MSM that the Obama Presidency is a failure, The change in attitude now from the MSM is that they were rewarded with a "safe" Republican candidate like Romney, democrat lite, so if Obama loses they can live with it. I GUARANTEE YOU IF NEWT GINGRICH WAS THE NOMINEE NONE OF THESE MSM ATTACKS ON OBAMA WOULD BE HAPPENING. It is clear to me because I am not a political neophyte, like some on Free Republic.

The axiom at work the left's prime objective, that has unfortunately already been met, here is that any Conservative candidate must be stopped, and that trumps everything. This holds true for both the GOP-e and the MSM's lap dog Democrats.

An observer from realville.

Sorry, but you need to watch the video again; Schieffer was clearly laughing at Obama. But hey, don't let this video or me get in the way of your pathetic, wet blanket attitude. Let me guess, you're going to skip voting in this presidential election?

Good stuff here. I thought I was one of the few here who had gotten over being a sore loserman.

I believe you to be a conspiracy driven sore loser. What you and those like you are saying is EXACTLY what was said last election by those further to the right.

You will always believe in some grand scheme by the left nd super natural powers of the media.

Here are the indisputable facts.

The (liberal) media has NEVER been in a weaker position to help (or hurt) a candidate. By any measure their credibility and audiences have declined precipitously over the past several years while at the same time the alternate” media has emerged and grown.

How can you not see the obviousness of the tired old game played by the Left of putting a happy face on EVERYTHING they cannot control or which puts their guy in a bad light?

WI is a great example. It has gone from being a bell weather election when they believed Walker would be recalled to being unimportant now that the results are in doubt. Hell even when they took the worst beating any Party in America ever took in 2010,they attempted to spin it as far less.

You and others like you are far to quick to buy into the media hype which is first and foremost designed to discourage opponents of the Left.

Or it means they realize how utterly ridiculous they look holding up a picture of a steaming pile of sh*t and telling everyone it’s a Rose.

Hell, I didn’t get my way either but I at least realize that the first thing you MUST do when a patient is severely wounded is stop the bleeding and do so by any means available.

Once that is done the healing process can begin. Will it succeed? I don’t know that but here is what I do know. If the bleeding is NOT stopped then the patient will absolutely die.

Tell me IYO would CBS’s Bob Schieffer’s little barb against Obama have happened if Newt was the candidate right now? I say no, Newt scares them and “they” would feel obligated to carry Obama’s dishwater. And you know who “they” are. I am just being objective.

Exactly, how rational does one have to be to realize the difference between ozero and Romney? He was not any of our first choice but unless we have the capability to reinvent the system in a few months, which we don’t, we are stuck. Time to make the best of it and move on.

So make the most of it, crybaby. Stop yer whining and get to work for the future.

For crap’s sake can it get more tiring to have folks around here almost suicidal because Mitt’s not nearly right enough? Big deal, children. Grow up. get over it.

It’s all about something bigger than 2012 anyway. Wake up.
