All the Rage [LA's "John and Ken Show" and its opponents]
Los Angeles Magazine ^ | May, 2012 | Ed Leibowitz

Posted on 05/28/2012 4:58:31 PM PDT by WilliamIII

The John & Ken Show has dominated the Southern California airwaves by railing against taxes, raising the alarm against illegal immigrants, skewering politicians, and whipping listeners into a fury. But their enemies have begun to fight, and now John Kobylt and Ken Chiampou find themselves in an unfamiliar place—namely, on the defensive

I’ve read that Obama is putting behind the scenes pressure on big radio conglomerates to clamp down on conservative talk hosts.

Maybe thats why (the suspension)they came out so stongly in support of tryavon martin. The truth is they are mostly entertainers. The anti-tax stands are admirable. But their
total lack of understanding of national politics is a glaring
and obvious weakness.

After the Whitney Houston controversy, Bertolucci and other KFI executives released a “Memorandum to the Los Angeles Community,” promising more diversity in the station’s internship program and rehabilitation of sorts for the station’s most prized talent.

Hurl.

These guys get extreme sometimes but so does Bill Maher, David Letterman and Chris Matthews.

Are their managers having to spew rehabilitation plans for them?

Didn't think so.

It must kill the LA Times to acknowledge conservative success.

Then again, the LA Times is dying from its own liberal excess.

Maher is 10X more vile than these two.

Icidentally, I was listening to Bill Maher tonight and he was doing an imitation of cracking jokes in his monologue. The only problem is that I didn't find them very funny; however, I did note the use of the eff word; etc.

Maybe I am getting grumpy in my old age, but I am beginning to agree with a freeper who said that people such as Bill Maher, Pauley Shore; etc., are a class of what could be called unfunny comedians.

Ohhhhh... how I miss the old Jackie Gleason variety hour (Reginald van Gleason; etc.).

Savage has alluded to that.

Thanks for posting this, it was a great article. I listened to them everytime I was in Southern California for work and oftentimes could pick them up in Phoenix.

I listen to John and ken all the time. Love them and they are funny. I agree with them most of the time because they are down on taxes, corruption, and illegals. They aren’t conservatives but they are very common sense.

John is the best political interviewer I have ever heard, because he says what you want the interviewer to say, and he ALWAYS asks follow ups. Ask meg Whitman why she lost the governorship. She dared to lie and they caught her in it. They asked publicly for like a year or more for old moonbeam to come on their show, but he saw how they finished Whitman off and never showed. And they didn’t do anything but ask her the hard questions. Including follow up questions to her phony answers. Pols are not used to that.

They were harsh on Whitney Houston right after she died, in the town where a lot of her family and friends reside. They did deserve that suspension. But I was so glad to have them back.

I told them they blew it with their comments early on, that they'd find out it was self defense after being attacked.

As the details have slowly surfaced, did ya notice they don't talk about it much anymore?

That being said, these guys expose government as the corrupt cabal it has become. Government don't like these guys one bit, for good reason.

Meg Whitman regretted the day she ever walked into their studio...They really revealed what an arrogant lying individual she is.

And you're right, they invited Brown in multiple times...Brown and his handlers would never allow it, for damn good reason.

The truth is they are mostly entertainers.

By galvanizing their audience, Kobylt and Chiampou long ago became two of the most effective activists in the state.

They were instrumental in the passage of California’s Three Strikes Law, in the recall of Governor Gray Davis, in grinding to a standstill any budget negotiation that might include tax increases, and in defeating legislation that would have expanded privileges for illegal immigrants.

Perhaps this suspension will teach them to treat people with basic human respect. Whitney Houston wasn't a crack ho'; she was a dedicated crack ho'.

The truth, like a bombing run, can be costly.

When you’re over the target, expect flak.

Entertainers, yes. They entertain me. But do they have an effect? Yes, they do. CA pols are more afraid of them than anyone else. The few Republicans we have are scared poopless of them, because they like to hide and cave, and j and K do not let them!! If anyone needs feet held to the fire it’s a California Republican!

Remember the sitting judge, running unopposed on the ballot, in orange county who volunteered at little league and was a pedophile? They got access to his online diary (judges are supposed to be smart, huh?) and read it over the air. “I don’t like Tommy anymore because he has developed leg hair.” People had to write in another judge’s name but it happened, the unopposed judge lost his seat.

You Wrote:

Mainly in regards to the federal debt. Also their comments equating R’s and D’s. The lack of coverage of National issues is noteable.

Again, their anti tax stands are admirable. I like their ridicule of the LA city council’s supermarket Anti-plastic bag vote.

But their heads on a stick programs target mostly Republicans. In a state and legislature dominated by democrats, that is counterproductive.

I prefer Larry Elder and Hugh Hewitt in the afternoon.

Oh, I see your problem now. Your a party guy who does not like someone speaking the truth.

Most of the Republicans in CA are nutless diaper wearing corrupt jackasses.

Mainly in regards to the federal debt. Also their comments equating R’s and D’s.

Too funny!
