Distraught over dog's shooting by Fort Worth police officers

Twenty-four hours after a police officer shot Lily, a 5-year-old Border Collie-English Setter mix, its owners still don't understand why the police officer was on their property and why he used lethal force.

... had just returned from a shopping trip and their two dogs had slipped into their truck, then into the garage, before re-emerging when an officer walked up the driveway...

Asked by the officer to control his two dogs, Mark Boling urged him not to advance, but he did. "My dogs don't bite, They're not going to hurt you," Boling, 52, an electronics technician with a defense contractor, recalled saying. "They're just going to run up to you."

A statement issued by police spokesman Sgt. Pedro Criado said the officer waited by the driveway when two barking dogs charged him in an aggressive manner while he repeatedly asked a male at the house to call the animals back. Then the unnamed officer jumped onto the porch pillar.

"As the dogs were getting closer to attack/bite the officer, the officer fired his service weapon, striking the dog closest to him," the spokesman said.

Boling said he had gained control of one of the dogs by the time the officer raised his gun, "Then I hear my wife yelling, 'Don't shoot my baby, please don't hurt my baby!"

From above the dog, the officer fired once, striking the 5-year-old mixed breed on the back. It dashed to the back yard where it bled to death within three minutes.

"You'd better check on your dog," she quoted the officer as responding.

But the policeman still had the gun raised and pointed toward her husband and surviving dog, she asserted.

"Why are you on my property — I didn't call you," Boling recalls asking.

This bloodthirsty killer Border Collie had to be dispatched for officer safety

Maybe a medal is in order for protecting public safety.

Link over for the full but short story for details.

I welcome dissenting views on the exemplary judgment displayed here by the officers of the court.

From the given information, imbecile cop should be fired. I certainly wouldn't want him on any police force in my vicinity.

A moron and coward with a badge is nothing but bad news and tragedy in waiting.

Some people who get into police work, particularly those in urban settings, are deathly afraid of dogs. They tend to equate all dogs as in the same vein as those urban land shark pit bulls.

If an enterprising person wanted to make a zillion dollars they would design a device that officers, mailmen, UPS guys, etc, could put on their belts, and turn on when approached by dogs. This device would emit a ultrasonic “NO!!!” that would keep the animals at bay.

He shot the dog because he can. Shooting people is getting easier for cops now, too. “I felt threatened’” Is the formula a cop has to use to legally absolve himself of all responsibility and to give him the right a dog or more and more, a person.

My Concern is not that he’s a rogue or in fact dumb so much as this is apparently part of SOP nationwide. This is most troubling. But, sure, he may well be an idiot or sadistic... but yet sharp enuff to follow procedure. Problem needs greater exposure.

The syndrome is so widespread that I have to assume that it is part of a policeman’s training and may well be practice to accustom then to shooting beings out of hand. It becomes easier for an officer to shoot a person once he is used to the expectation that if he goes on a call he gets to shoot any livestock that is present, especially knowing that he need only say,”I felt threatened” and at worst he gets extra paid vacation time, at best he gets a promotion and a medal. This is an element of The Terror in its classic Soviet and French Directoire sense.

The idiot cop thought that was a pit bull? Defense attorneys should be able to tear up any testimony he tries to concoct for any future criminal cases.

The point isn’t the officer’s fear of dogs, it is inuring the officer to the shooting of living beings, preferably fairly large bodied beings. After a time when it is humans that get shot on routine calls the people will begin to feel Terror which is what it is all about.

"The Bolings said neighbors overheard police who arrived on the scene saying that the responding officer had mistakenly thought he was in the 4900 block. The officer himself was heard wrongly describing Lily as a pit bull, the couple said.
