Fourth suspect in soldier's beating turns himself in

The fourth person wanted in connection with the brutal robbery and beating of a soldier stationed at MacDill Air Force Base turned himself in today, Tampa police say.

Brandon Miller, 18, of 16023 Sharewood Drive, Tampa, showed up at the Orient Road Jail. When detectives arrived to interview him, he was uncooperative and showed no remorse, police said in a news release.

Investigators believe Miller was one of four men seen on a surveillance video attacking Sgt. Johnny Aparicio on a South Tampa street in the early hours of May 13.

Aparicio, who is stationed with U.S. Central Command at MacDill, was walking on Iowa Avenue at about 3:30 a.m. after his car broke down, police say. A group of men approached Aparicio, asked him for a dollar, then began punching and kicking him. They took his wallet and phone.

Aparicio suffered a broken nose, and a tooth was knocked out, a police report states.

Previously arrested in connection with the beating were Geroshe Lewis, Lerome Howard and Jared Richardson, all 18. All three were charged with aggravated battery and robbery.
