That's odd...I didn't see you either..I guess we never crossed paths,in 1966-67,1969-70,and 1973-4.You could have found a bunch of us at Sacrament meetings aboard most any Naval vessel and at DaNang...at least I could find them.
First of all, I thank you for your service - and I am happy to hear that there were Mormons, you among them, who were serving in Vietnam. In 1966-67 I was with an artillery battery first, then with an infantry battalion further inland and didn't meet any Mormons. Might have been that I wasn't acquainted with everybody and may have missed them, I don't know. We had a bunch of Protestants, a bunch of Catholics, one New York Jew among us and even one guy that claimed to be Buddhist but no Mormons (or 7th Day Adventists, Jehovah's Witnesses, etc.). I did have several Mormon friends in High School but none of them served in Vietnam. All of them went out on missions for their church but missed out on my war.
It is probably overly general of me to have made that connection but with a very prominent Mormon potentially heading for our highest office it is telling that he left us to it on our own.
No man in Romney's direct line has ever served our nation in uniform since the family arrived here to serve Joseph Smith 170 years ago, never, peace time/war time, drafted or volunteer.
Mitt was hiding out in France while his father (made money in WWII) campaigned as the GOP anti-war candidate, attacking the military for "brainwashing" him in the past.
