The bulk of Spanish Jews were Sephardim but there was certainly trade and other contact among the Jews of Spain and the Jews of central Europe. It is an impossibility that there was no mixing among groups.

A good point, but not a foolproof one. There was significant contact back and forth, they aren't hermetically sealed groups.

I'd like to see the source though, Xinhua is only slightly more reliable than Debka.
