Obama would go a long way to put this birther thing to rest by allowing Kapiolani Hospital officials to discuss his mother's supposedly stay in that hospital way back on Aug. 4, 1961, the day of birth that is on Obama's long form birth certificate.
For instance, the hospital could verify that Obama's mother was indeed a patient there in Aug. 1961, and it could show reporters the room where she stayed.
However, I don't believe that Obama will ever give Kapiolani permission to verify that his mother was there on Aug. 4, 1961, just as Obama will never release a copy of his Social Security card with its Connecticut number, even though, as many of us know, a person can easily obtain a copy of his own original Social Security application by simply paying a small fee.
The Social Security website has instructions on how to obtain a copy of one's application form.
So I wish that the sheriff would put pressure on Obama and Kapiolani hospital officials to verify that Obama's mother was there on Obama's birthdate, Aug. 4, 1961, just like Arizona Secretary of State Bennett sought "verification" a few weeks ago from Hawaii officials that Obama was born there.

It is unlikely that any records exist to prove, pro or con, this story.
Hospitals in different states have different requirements for record retention. Hawaii, last I checked, was 25 years.
As everyone converts to EMR, paper records are being destroyed as rapidly as possible. I had a case in 2006 where I had to confirm a simple fact from 1958, from my own hospital, and the fact is that all records from 1958 are long gone.
Whether or not the State of Hawaii is involved in a coverup (and they SHOULD have whatever records exist from 1961), it's very unlikely that Kapiolani has any relevant information at all.
