SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Devout Latter-day Saints are dressing up in their Sunday best clothing to march in a gay pride parade this Sunday.

The Latter-day Saints will carry their scriptures and hold up quotes from church leaders about messages of love and acceptance.
.
.
She says gay pride festival organizers welcomed her with open arms when she request to march. She expects about 100 people to march in her group.

"What we're trying to do is say we welcome you. We want you to be part of our congregation. We want you to feel safe in our pews," Munson said.

She is also sending a clear message to other Latter-day Saints. "We want people in wards all over the world to see us and say these folks are just like me," said Munson.

Is this generally promoted by the LDS church, or is this some “devout” Mormon making public statements and taking positions on their own, without true authority to represent the position of the church? I would be very surprised and disappointed if this represents official church policy, or even if it represents policy the church will wink and nod at, or ignore with implicit approval. Does anybody know if there has been a statement from the office of the LDS president, or something similar, about this?

They have been quite emboldened ever since the Lds church sanctioned homosexual rights a few yrs ago in SLC.

See links here:
Mormon church supports Salt Lake City's protections for gay rights and Mormons Back Salt Lake City Gay Rights Laws

I believe the Lds church thought it was taking too much flak from Prop 8 & decided to take baby steps the other way to save its "PR" rep.

still support only traditional marriage.

When have they dont that ???

Prop 8 in CA was just busy work...

They got into that after Romney dropped out in Feb 2008

Before that they could not have cared less...

Are they converging on any state this time and taking over like they did in CA

No because Willard grabbed himself the nomination...

In 2008 they refused to help the non-Mormon McCain win in Nov...

They spent their time and money elsewhere so that they didnt have to be exposed as not helping the GOP win......

It was just a blind ...

Did you really believe that the Mormons were doing it for some reason other than spite ???

Romney does not support gay marriage.

Today maybe, but what about yesterday and then there is always tomorrow.

How can you support gay adoption but not gay marriage? Easy. Politicians are idiots and cowards.

I have a generally positive view of Romney, but most politicians don’t dare say gays can’t be good parents. They aren’t going to cart kids out of gay homes.

Newt deserves credit, he opposed gay adoption.

My own feeling is courts allowed gay adoption without really studying what is in the best interests of a child. I’m sure all the liberal psychiatrist groups lined up to say it’s great. I cannot abide such an attitude toward the welfare of children.

However, I do believe Romney opposes gay marriage. This is the world we live in.

I realize that blacks could not hold positions of authority or the hold the “priesthood” of Mormonism up to 1978; can homosexuals hold this priesthood now?

Some things people post are pretty funny.

That Mormons got Prop 8 passed to outlaw gay marriage in California because it was “busy work”? Come on, that is a knee slapper.

Next, you asked are they leading such an effort anywhere else. Yes, in Maryland, right now.

It amazes me to see some people still resent Romney or Mormons when they agree with you on an issue. Some people can’t take “yes” for an answer.

As stated above, I don’t think gay marriage ever should have been allowed without first an extensive and honest study proving there is no harm to a child. I don’t agree with Romney on this and I admire Newt having the courage to be anti gay adoption.

Probably not an issue with much play at the federal level, are there any states that don’t allow gay adoption? Just asking.

So Bill apparently you know little of mormonism and the corporate mind set and authority structure.
It’s ok, you’ll learn soon enough.

apparantly they do...

temple mormons who “go through the temple” are at least 18...

at 18 Mormon males get the “Melchezadec priesthood” making them equal to the Mormon jesus...

at 12 they get the “Aaronic priesthood” which gives them authority over all women INCLUDING THEIRE OWN MOTHERS...

since Mormons dont recognize the power of the Holy Spirit of the Christian Bible and therefore dont work with any disernment of spirits the leaders wouldnt know one demon from another and wouldnt know that the guy is gay and has unclean spirits..

So yes a homosexual could easily be in authority in the Mormon religion..

after all males with the unclean demons of polygamy were in authority in the past with nobody the wiser that they were unrighteous and unholy...

The same type of demons control gays...

all a male has to do is look good and answer the questions on the bishops interview the right way...

Do you wear the magic underwear night and day ?

Yes

Do you associate with those evil Christians ?

No

easy...

Answer? Yes...even leadership positions:

It’s amazing to see the husband’s ego inflate a little more with every episode.

What I find amazing is the continual cry from that group of "persecution" when they admittedly and flagrantly broke UT laws and DARED officials to do something about it and then hightailed it to NV.

I think the term "trailer trash" was invented for Cody and the girls, AND for the parents of the girls that were raised in polygamist families.

I'm waiting for the interview with Mitt in which he is confronted with this TV show.

Well, that explains then why my “girl” cousin was asked to leave, whereas my “boy” cousin enjoys all the privileges that come with the pretend priesthood.
And why my college roommate’s husband was allowed to marry again in the temple and she was asked to leave.
It all makes perfect sense now.

Quite disturbing, eh? And the shocking thing is that such degeneracy is so easily integrated into the ISM.

That post was obnoxiously ignorant, even by your abysmally low standards. Either you know nothing about what you speak, or you are trying with all your might to twist anything on the subject or Mormonism to the negative. It’s pretty lame, and embarrassing to watch.

"He claims he doesn't, but how can you support the "right" for homosexual couples to adopt children yet be oppossed to that same couple getting married. The former is much worse than the latter."

Exactly. When voicing his support for homosexuals adopting, the way Romney phrased it was disgusting. He said "two people of the same gender who love each other." To me, that sounds like a hardcore sodomite lover.

Hmmm - I thought that this was one of the questions that were asked in order to be able to attend a Mormon temple:

“6. Do you affiliate with any group or individual whose teachings or practices are contrary to or oppose those accepted by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or do you sympathize with the precepts of any such group or individual?”

So I can only assume that the gay Mormons in those leadership positions HAVE to have temple recommends, so does that mean that these gays have to avoid gay groups, or are such gay group activities accepted by LDS leaders, or do just male gays get temple recommends and not female gays, or . . . . ?

So many questions, so little time. I’m so confused! But then I am not a member - I am sure the LDS leaders in SLC are providing comforting answers to such doctrinal questions from any of their questioning members.
