President Barack Obama appears to oppose the ban on sex-selection abortions that the House of Representatives debated yesterday and will be voting on today.
ABC News White House correspondent Jake Tapper posted a new report indicating President Obama opposes the bill to prohibit performing or coercing abortions to eliminate unborn babies of an undesired sex. Tapper raised the question at Wednesday’s White House press briefing, but did not receive a respond to his question about Obama’s position.
“I will have to take that as well. Been focused on other things, but I will get back to you,” Jay Carney said during the White House press briefing.
Now, Tapper reports on the ABC News web site The White House got back to me this evening [May 30] to say the president opposes the bill.”
White House deputy press secretary Jamie Smith told him in a statement: “The Administration opposes gender discrimination in all forms, but the end result of this legislation would be to subject doctors to criminal prosecution if they fail to determine the motivations behind a very personal and private decision. The government should not intrude in medical decisions or private family matters in this way.”
National Right to Life legislative director Douglas Johnson was upset to learn Obama opposes the common-sense bill, telling LifeNews: “It is appalling, but not surprising, that President Obama now stands with the pro-abortion political committees and his Hollywood donors, rather than with the coerced women, and their unborn daughters, who are victimized in sex-selection abortions.”
Johnson says the White House statement falsely claimed that the bill would “subject doctors to criminal prosecution if they fail to determine the motivations” for an abortion.
“The government should not intrude in medical decisions or private family matters in this way.”?????
How they can say stuff like this with a straight face is remarkable.

I don’t understand how a ban on this will matter. Seems like, if the pregnant person did not tell WHY she was requesting the abortion, who would know that was the reason?

I think this is just a tactic like the left uses against gun ownership. If you can get them first to agree that some limitations are reasonable, then you keep adding more limitations and pushing the line until all abortion is illegal. Personally, I don’t like the tactic in either case. State the argument plainly and clearly and vote it up or down.
The truth is that path of abortion makes us no better than the Nazis.
How can there be a greater “war on women” than killing them before they are ever born?

I don’t understand the hoopla over this issue. The reality is that murder is murder, regardless of sex or the “logic” of those that are committing the murder.
I remember when the abortion debate was going on.
This point, sex selection, was brought up.
The pro-abortion crowd assured, ‘ it would never be used for THAT!’
Yup.
And this part is a wedge issue that will ultimately fracture part of the support for the holocaust away.
If abortion isn’t killing a child there is zero rason to deny a parent to chose what sort of child they want.

This issue demonstrates how far the pro-abortion crowd is willing to go in defense of murder.

Then I suppose a baby is less dead if the murder is committed by a well intentioned murderer instead of a murderer that wants a boy rather than a girl.
Murder is murder and I have been able to bring that to light for MANY “pro-choicers.” Once they see the light, then the argument is won. Period. I am able to make the argument with logic and intellect and find that it is much more effective than these emotional envoking attempts.
