Ian Stawicki, Seattle Cafe Shooter Kills 5, Himself
ABC News ^ | 5/31/2012 | Unattributed

The father of the man who opened fire and killed five people across Seattle and later killed himself after a citywide manhunt, says his son was a very private person who was "disgruntled" and had been a frequent customer of the coffee shop where his rampage began.

"He was happy sometimes, but not really. He was kind of disgruntled," Walt Stawicki said about his son Ian Stawicki, who fatally shot himself after a killing spree Wednesday.

Seattle's Harborview Medical Center confirmed that Ian Stawicki, who according to his father, was unmarried with no children and had recently worked on a fish processing boat in Alaska, died at 6 p.m. local time Wednesday.

After the shootings began at approximately 11 a.m. when Stawicki opened fire at Cafe Racer Espresso in Seattle's University District, eventually killing four people, he killed a fifth random woman in a subsequent confrontation and stole her car.

Two victims died at the scene at Cafe Racer Espresso, while two more died later at Harborview Medical Center. People who were brought to the hospital had suffered gunshot wounds to the head, according to Susan Gregg, a hospital spokeswoman.

According to the Seattle Times, two of the victims at the cafe were Joe "Vito" Albanese, 52, who was killed along with best friend Drew Keriakedes, 45; the two men were in a band called God's Favorite Beefcake. The two other victims shot at the cafe have not yet been identified.

The killer, a mentally-ill maniac, apparently frequented the cafe where he claimed most of his victims.

Prayers for the families of those murdered.

Ever notice that nobody is ever described as “gruntled”?

That’s funny, I had to look it up. Gruntled means to put in a good mood.

If I were the father of such a monster I would not be out making public statements. I would be in hiding somewhere and beside myself with grief and shame.

Since I decided 53 years ago to never be a parent, this is just idle thought on my behalf.

Prayers for the dead, and for those that mourn them.

Better get to Stawicki’s facebook page before the Libs sanitize it.

Okay, you guys now have put a piece of dialog into my brain from Ten Things I Hate About You.

"I know you can be underwhelmed, and overwhelmed; but, can you ever just be "whelmed"?"

Actually, "to whelm" means to overturn - usually a boat or other vessel.

Overwhelm and whelm are effectively synonyms, with "overwhelm" just being a stronger way of saying "whelm".

"Underwhelm" began as a wordplay on the metaphoric use of "overwhelm."

I feel no responsibility for the things my adult children do.

There’s more to the story here...

Don’t know. I do know that the Mayor was talking about more restrictions yesterday in the wake of a recent spate of shootings.

I’m sure he and Niles are fine.

His dad is a cop and would know what to do.

Well, certainly the anti-gunners will work it that way instead of thinking what would have happened had everyone there been armed.

The laws seem pretty sane. Anyone (not felons, etc) can open carry; you need a permit for concealed.

If I start out by thinking that me and my homies are the smartest people in the room, SO smart that we know better than everybody else about how to run society, at the end our contempt for everybody else will get some of them killed — the unborn, the unarmed, the “beneficiaries” of our social and health-care policies.

It is terrifyingly predictable.

Re your post #9, I can see your point about not feeling responsible for what your adult children do. My point was that if I had a child, who as an adult committed a horrible crime as this man did, I would feel very bad in that I had a big hand in creating this monster.
