Do you think his assumption that experience can teach people and change their outlook is wrong?
I will gladly entertain the possibility that ex-Democrats may become more conservative. Not everybody is on auto-pilot. Some people reflect and reconsider.

Actually, White Mississippi Democrats have had almost nothing in common with the Democrat party for many years. We have relatives there who are both Democrat and more conservative than me—and that’s not easy. They vote R in national elections. But the local politicos are Dems and just as conservative as my relatives.
