That is true. There are two main types of polls that are done. One type are the ones done "internally" for campaigns. These polls are the most accurate as they sample GOP/Dems/Independents in ratios that reflect accurately the given area that polls are conducted in.
The polls for public consumption - the ones that we see touted on all the news media - are manipulated to drive public opinion and they will oversample or undersample groups to achieve the desired result. In this manner, media are able to "guide" a lot of people to voting a certain way because most people feel good about themselves when they pick a winner so if they are led to believe a certain candidate is ahead, they will tend to vote for that candidate.

I don’t know whether it is really most but I do know that some are that silly. I don’t know what someone gets out of voting for someone simply because they think he is going to win anyway. I don’t care if I am the only person in the country not voting for Obama I will still proudly proclaim that I think he is a disaster and never intended to be anything else. Of course I am like George Gobel, I tend to spend a lot of time alone.
