A FAR right politician was held in cells for almost six hours for objecting to a pro-gay rights flag flying above a police station.
English Democrat Paul Rimmer, who recently failed in his bid to become mayor of Liverpool, was arrested on Saturday after an argument in Admiral Street Police station, Toxteth.
Mr Rimmer demanded to know why the Rainbow Flag was flying above the station.

It was bad enough when the Labour Party was expanding gay rights under Tony Blair, but now the so-called Conservative Party leader wants to bring in gay marriage.
It doesn’t take much to be labeled “far right” these days.

The Conservative Party in the UK is “center-left”. Labor is “left”, and the Liberal Democrats are “far-left”. Any party that comes along that has an idea a bit to the right of the Conservatives becomes “far-right”, bypassing center-right and right altogether.

In Britain (and elsewhere in Europe) they have laws forbidding the incitement of racial hatred (or something like that).I'll wager that those laws also apply to sexual orientation hatred.
Soviet officials and bureaucrats were "far right" by the standards of contemporary European (and American) socialism. It makes me sick.

Rimmer was not arrested for simply opposing the flag (which I also think is nonsense PC-ism), he was arrested, according to media reports here, for being abusive and swearing at the police during the argument.
Being abusive to police is illegal (and stupid). Doing so IN a police station is idiocy.
As to Rimmer, please be aware that he is an ex-member of the BNP. As I sure most Americans are aware (or maybe not), the BNP are a racist and antisemitic party, who are far right, and who have barely disguised links to neo-nazi groups in the UK like Combat 18 and European racist groups/neo-nazis. If Rimmer and the BNP were American, they wouldnt be the Tea Party, we are talking equivalent to the KKK.

As a Briton, and as a Tory/Conservative myself, I can assure you that whilst the Tory party 2012 may be less rightwing than in previous years, the idea they are leftist is rubbish.
They are at worst centre-right, and many members and Tory MP’s remain rightwing as opposed to centre-right. Cameron may be a bit RINO at times, but even he is overall centre-right (his personal beliefs are more to the right than perhaps his public persona is.....remember he is PM but has to work with a centre-left party in the coalition, so he has had to compromise on issues where if the Tories had won the 2010 election outright, he wouldnt have, and hopefully if they win outright in 2015, he wont have to).
Labour is centre-left/left.
the Lib Dems are left, but not far left.
UK far leftist parties are ones like RESPECT, or the British Communist Party.
