IRS: Politics can jeopardize churches' tax-exempt status

WASHINGTON - Pastors meeting in Washington have been warned about political activities that could jeopardize their churches' tax-exempt status.

IRS regional manager Peter Lorenzetti told the Faith Leaders Summit that prohibited activities include endorsing or opposing candidates, campaigning for them, or making contributions to their campaigns.

But pastors are free to do any of those things as private citizens, according to Congressman G.K. Butterfield. The North Carolina Democrat, a former judge, said, "You simply cannot do it in your capacity as the pastor of the church and give the implication that the church is endorsing the candidate."

This law has never applied to black churches.

Notice that Holder’s meeting with the conference came AFTER Obama’s announcement on gay marriage, which most black churches oppose. In other words, “You’re welcome to support Obama from the pulpit, but if you criticize him from the pulpit, you’re exposing yourself to violating your tax-exempt status!”

"This law has never applied to black churches. "

Catholic churches need not apply for Holder's dispensation...

A couple things come to mind, but I prefer “Don’t fire until you see the whites of their eyes”.

IRS rules on politics and campaigning ONLY apply to white churches; Black churches ALWAYS get a pass whether it is at the local level or in a national campaign.

Except, of course, ALL the campaigning and speeches that go on in black churches.

As opposed to the preachers before the American Revolution leading their congregations out, with their guns, to join.

Are we men?

“IRS regional manager Peter Lorenzetti told the Faith Leaders Summit that prohibited activities include endorsing or opposing candidates, campaigning for them, or making contributions to their campaigns. “

The Mouthpiece for the Administration speaks. For years the Black Churches have been pimping from the pulpit for the Democrats.

NOW, Obama is directing HIS IRS to target opposition churches.

EVERYONE on this Forum should check out the Cristiano Rebellion in Mexico. In the Early 1900’s the Socialist Government there attempted to wipe religion from public life in Mexico, using the army and military terror. A sizable number of the Mexican population went from passive protest and resistance to open rebellion and succeeded in forcing the government to moderate their opposition to God and religion in the public sphere. Only until fairly recently did the Mexican government fully lift restrictions against religion.

There is a movie which has been released this weekend on this very subject, and, as it is NOT a Hollywood Production, should represent the story pretty accurately.

The Obama Administration, along with preceding administrations since Ronald Reagan, have sought to do the same thing here.

Exactly. Last election, there was a black church in our area that had a get out and vote for Obama sign in front of their church. Churches are also clearinghouses for info on how to game the welfare system.

Wonder how they will feel this election cycle supporting the down-low?

It's time for churches to believe in God's provision and drop their tax-exempt status.

"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. Malachi 3:10

Let churches be salt and light to the world, not be compliant to the world.

This is such a crock: clearly intended to intimidate churches that seek to defend freedom of religion, oppose unjust statist “mandates”, and preach Christian teachings on unnatural sex practices. The Black churches are ALL about politics and our gun-running,race-hustling Attorney General just delivered a political speech to a large group of Black politician/preachers this week.If they try to use the IRS to muzzle churches or to fine them out of existence, there will be hell to pay. In the next world AND this. Believing Christians can only take so much from this godless anti-Christian government.

I dare Obama to start targeting churches. It would ensure the destruction of him and his party. They would not win an election for twenty years.
