The easiest way I have found to lose weight..

The easiest way I've found is to get badly injured. Taking organs out reduces weight. 2 weeks in trauma care takes the pounds off.

Of course, when you start at a muscular and trim 118... that can be an issue.

As a grown man, weighing 90 lbs was an issue. I despise the picture than my daughter took of me right after I escaped the hospital.

If I don't get 2400 to 3000 calories a day, I dry up and blow away. And I've never seen 150lbs in my life.

Folks are different. When I cook for people, I cook for each one. Because they are all different.

I’ve seen patients take steroids and gain weight without reduction in activity or increase in calories. . . .

__________________________________________________________

I’ve been on a steroid regimen and the hunger pangs are incredible, you don’t want to stop eating.

Come into 2012, get real. it is a scientific numbers game. I don’t care who you are if you eat too many calories you get fat. If you don’t eat calories you lose weight.

When the Allies liberated the concentration camps do you think there were any fat inmates? All weight comes from calories. All weight comes from calories. You can talk about steroids all you want, unless they have a lot of calories they won’t make you gain weight, it is the increased appetite that makes you gain weight, PERIOD.

If you weigh 180 pounds and you stop eating for two days you will lose a pound. You will lose a pound for every two days you stop eating. Try drinking only water for a week and see what happens.

No matter what your wishful thinking will tell you the fact is that calories decide how much you weigh. If you want to speed up your weight loss all you need to do is exercise, for every 3600 calories you burn you will lose a pound. I warn you though, 3600 calories is a lot of exercise.

There are a very few people whose metabolism is different, these people are rare. Those people can usually burn more than their weight would imply, it seldom works the other way where people burn less calories than their weight implies. It is a law of physics. It takes a certain amount of energy to move a certain amount of weight or do a certain amount of work, we measure those things in calories. A calorie is a measure of heat. It takes a certain amount of heat to make your heart work and that heat can be calculated, has been calculated. No matter who you are you HAVE to burn that many calories to make your heart work. Some few lucky people for some reason are inefficient in burning calories and actually burn more calories doing the same amount of work but those people are so rare as to not be worth considering.

People who say they are fat because of low metabolism are just wrong. It simply takes a certain amount of energy to move a certain amount of weight, there are no magic people who can do it for less.

If you are fat it is your own fault. Quit making excuses and go burn a few calories or stop eating so much or, simply enjoy being fat.

Stop eating and you will lose weight.

Always took 3-4 salt tabs after basketball practices in high school and college, but that was many years ago. Would normally sweat off 5-6 lbs per practice so I needed lots of water and salt to replenish.I sweated - a lot.

I can’t believe you deny that calories can simply be created out of thin air!!!!!!!!

/s

I might be a caveman to somebody, but I believe the same as you. Calorie in = calorie expended or stored. That seems undeniable despite my agreement that everyone is different. It seems like adjusting diet and exercise are the logical answers for weight control. My metabolism has slowed quite a bit as I have gotten older, but those rules work for me.

Salt is absolutely important. And it is better to drink mineralized water.

Consuming relatively high sodium amounts and lower potassium amounts in the diet triggers the release of aldosterone, a hormone from the adrenal glands that raises blood pressure. Potassium supplementation can be used to treat hypertension.

We use RealSalt, ‘sea salt’ laid down in ancient sea beds in Utah eons ago. We mix potassium chloride with the Real Salt (about 1/3 potassium chloride). RealSalt does not have the added iodine. I take potassium iodide for the iodine...iodine is needed in small amounts for the thyroid, but in much larger amounts for many other bodily functions.

Our drinking water is from an artesian spring that runs 24/7/365. Much better than our well water. It is best not to drink distilled water...we need the minerals. We add electrolytes via trace minerals to our drinking water. This prevents blood viscosity increases that will raise blood pressure.

Kidneys play a role in controlling blood pressure: Blood volume is controlled by the kidneys, organs that keep the concentration of electrolytes to fluid in blood at 300 milliosmols. Electrolytes include molecules such as sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium. When patients drink plain water, often they are diluting the concentration of electrolytes in their bloodstream. The kidneys then act to filter the excess water out through urination.

I remember eating salt tablets available on the wall of the un-airconditioned factory I worked in in the late 60's in Baltimore's humid summer; I ran the (molten) Salt Bath.

Used to work "General Services" (labor gang) in a steel mill in the middle 60s. One of our duties was to drill and jackhammer slag out of the soaking pits ( place where they kept ingots heated prior to being rolled ). We ate salt jellies and washed them down with Nehi orange. It was OK because they waited until they cooled to 140 before you got sent in for alternating half hour shifts.

Sorry, but it’s not that simple. 2000 calories consisting of mostly junk (bad carbs) is not nearly in the same league as 2100 good calories (small varying amounts of good carbs, plus an ample amount of protein & healthy fats). Healthy fats, meaning saturated & medium chain fats). For most people, the latter group of calories is not likely to produce a weight gain over time. In fact, assuming a starting baseline of 2000 calories/day, a person seeking weight loss can actually lose weight by consuming more than 2000 calories.

Salt is a mineral we need. The main thing is to not eat processed food, where sodium is hidden. Eat fresh food, and salt it to your taste with sea salt. Especially from healthy areas - Celtic sea salt is full of minerals. Enjoy your food!

I used to think salt on fruit was weird. Still don’t eat it on fruit, but now I find that sea salt on dark chocolate is HEAVEN. That salt and sweet.... I adore it. Wish I had some right now...

Salt isn’t the problem.

The anti-caking agents are.

Silicone dioxide is mixed in with the salt. This tears up the insides of your arteries and they start bleeding. The cholesterol is sent out by your body to reinforce the weakened bleeding artery area.

Get sea salt without anti-caking agents.

If salt was so bad, I know of a platoon (I was member of) should all be dead.

We spent a hot Kansas summer in 1956 at Fort Riley digging long deep trenches for cable with picks and shovels. (gotta keep the troops occupied ya know) The sweat poured and we ate salt tablets by the handful until nauseous day after day.

Wife’s best friend is a no salt fanatic. When I get dragged into going out with them to eat lunch, I shake scads of salt on the food just to urinate the hell out of her. (she is not my best friend)

I figured out, over the years, that the "experts" don't know a thing.

In 1980 during my discharge physical, my BP was 100/58 and pulse rate was 64 (sitting). Before I started this reply, I took my BP and pulse rate and got 112/63 and 67.

My weight in 1980 was 136. My weight now is 155-160. I have not visited a doctor since a DOT required physical in the early 90s.

I smoke. I drink beer every day, eat what I want, my exercise these days consists of a 2 mile walk daily with my dog.

On those rare occasions when I need a doctor's opinion to confirm my analysis a the problem I'm experiencing, I contact a doctor online or by phone, explain the issue, and offer my solution. If the doctor disagrees, he lets me know a better way, and I'll follow his advise. No one knows my body better than me. So for 40+ years, everytime I see some scare article about how coffee, red meat, (fill in the latest scare food) .... I ignore it.

Considering the life I've lead, in the military and as a cop, and all the close calls during my lifetime, I figure that if I'm gonna die, and I will someday, I'm going to ENJOY my life my way. To HELL with the scare mongers. We all will die sometime, from something. Until then, I intend to enjoy the ride.

One issue with trying to survive without beer is, even if one drinks it moderately (say 2 to 4 cans a day) without getting rip roaring drunk, one would still have a strong likelihood of suffering DT’s if consumption ceased cold turkey.
