Sir Elton John to Play for the Queen on Our Anniversary

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: I have to say this, I just saw something on TV that reminded me. Tomorrow, in Great Britain, a big concert for the Queen. The Jubilee. They had the big thing yesterday with all the boats on the River Thames.

Tomorrow is June 5th. Does that date ring a bell for any of you, June 5th? No? How quickly people forget. June 5th, right, Snerdley, right. June 5th, tomorrow, is going to be two blissful years for me. June the 5th. Do you happen to know who performed at my wedding? Do you remember, Snerdley? Correct. Sir Elton John performed at Kathryn's and my wedding two years ago tomorrow. And who is performing for the Queen tomorrow on the same day? Sir Elton John. Sir Paul McCartney and so forth and Sir Stevie Wonder, but Sir Elton John is the headliner. I thought that I would point this out. Sir Elton performed at my wedding before doing anything for the Queen.

Anyway, back to Clinton, or did you have something in there that you wanted to add, some snarky comment? What's the snarky comment? Go ahead and hit me with the snarky comment. How much did the Queen have to pay to get Elton? Typical snarky comment. Most staffers would have been summarily fired after asking that kind of question. Even though I invited the question, most staffers would be summarily dismissed asking such a question rooted in insubordination, "How much did the Queen have to pay?" We don't know. We really don't know. Doesn't matter. Doesn't matter. It happened. It's in the history books and it's taking place on the exact two-year anniversary.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: I'll tell you something else. The Queen gave Elton John a Knighthood. I didn't have to do that. I didn't have to come up with some ceremonial award or anything in order to secure the performance, the appearance of Elton John at the wedding.

Me, me, me, its all about me.

Here's a clue; if Elton John is playing at your wedding you know you are weak on social issues.

Sir Elton? Wouldn’t it be Madam Elton in his case?

EJ was at the height of his career when Rush was a disc jockey and Rush probably liked his music back then as most people still do...even many conservatives.

Elton does not push his phaginess militantly as many do and most people did not know back then he was gay. ...so this is one of those cases of shut up and sing.

No, not really. He was Knighted by Queen Elizabeth II on February 24, 1998, granting him the title of “Sir”. The honour was officially for his charitable work.

I’ve always been curious whether Sir Elton was asked to play “Kiss The Bride” at Rush’s wedding.

If you don’t know the 1980s hit, the key line in the song goes “But if the groom would have known he’d have had a fit about his wife and the things we did.”

Queen Victoria would have never stood for a Sodomite like Elton John playing at a Royal Party!

This Queen Betty lady has got to go as, she will encourage even more, if not all British musicians to be queer just like Elton.

Isn’t June 5 also the anniversary of the passing of Ronald Reagan?

Probably Rush's wife (Katherine?) wanted Elton there. That's my thinking. Elton's must charge a million or so but no way would he charge the Queen's jubilee organizers though perhaps he got travel and hotel expenses

Good mememory. President Reagan died June 5, 2004, but I think the reason Rush brought up Elton John was because he sang at Rush’s wedding

It was just sort of surprising to me that Rush would have picked that RWR anniversary for his wedding. This wife is sure ‘nuff pretty.
