Ecstatic crowds cheered the Queen's carriage procession through the streets of London today as British pomp and pageantry went on full display.
The Queen was joined in her 1902 State Landau by the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, as the Duke of Edinburgh is being treated in hospital for a bladder infection. Philip is said to be 'disappointed' at missing the festivities marking the end of the extended Diamond Jubilee Bank Holiday.

What is this festival about and why is it called Jubilee?
Celebrating her 60th year on the throne.
Diamond Jubilee.
Like someone celebrating a 60th wedding anniversary would be having their diamond anniversary.
Why the word Jubilee? Don’t know.
There were plenty.
Well, the BBC, ITV and Sky all spoke to British Asians, some of whom will have been Muslim (as opposed to Skih or Hindu). Remember many Muslims DONT wear a hijab or burkha.

Prince Philip is my favorite royal.
He is so politically incorrect, you can’t help but love him!
They certainly do! The Queen Mum, another Elizabeth, stayed on this earth until she reached 101.
Incidentally: there was a recent poll asking which Sovereigns were the best. #1 was Queen Elizabeth II, #3 was Queen Elizabeth I and #2 was Queen Victoria.
Interesting how all three were Sovereign Queens. Fact is, feminism make its greatest gains under Queen Victoria and Elizabeth II. The suffragette movement had its seeds in the Victorian era, and drew a lot of credibility from Queen Victoria reigning alone. "If our Head of State can be female, and a jolly good Head of State at that, then why can't others of her sex not vote?"
Push it forward a century, and you get "...then why can't women do all that men can do?"
Yep, it looks to me like the originary fount of feminism is none other than the British monarchy. Particularly with respect to Queen Victoria and the current Sovereign.
You’re welcome, glad you enjoyed them! Do you have family over here?
Yes, the contrast between the Royals and Obama couldn’t be more stark. His video ‘tribute’ appeared as contrived and phoney as he is, considering he has gone to great lengths to insult us.
Yes, something interesting to note. You are more likely to have seen older generation Sikhs and mixed race celebrating rather than some of the more recent additions to our melting pot!
You’re very welcome, and yes I agree, one of the reasons I have taken interest despite being non fussed by the Royal Family in general.
You are right, sadly we get the nonsense celebrity drivel as well. I certainly wouldn’t complain that the queen hasn’t handles her reign with nothing but dignity and devotion to her duty which I suppose is something we can all admire.
I assume you haven’t been back yourself?
You’re welcome!
Yes I have been several times to Nottingham. I have toured all over Britian from Cornwall to Lock Ness.
The Queen's Diamond Jubilee flotilla recalls Canaletto's famous painting, River Thames with St. Paul's Cathedral on Lord Mayor's Day, c.1747-48
FLOTILLA ROUTE
Not that I know of personally, but probably so. All I know is that I have relatives who came from Surrey. :)
