Incidentally: there was a recent poll asking which Sovereigns were the best. #1 was Queen Elizabeth II, #3 was Queen Elizabeth I and #2 was Queen Victoria.
Interesting how all three were Sovereign Queens. Fact is, feminism make its greatest gains under Queen Victoria and Elizabeth II. The suffragette movement had its seeds in the Victorian era, and drew a lot of credibility from Queen Victoria reigning alone. "If our Head of State can be female, and a jolly good Head of State at that, then why can't others of her sex not vote?"
Push it forward a century, and you get "...then why can't women do all that men can do?"
Yep, it looks to me like the originary fount of feminism is none other than the British monarchy. Particularly with respect to Queen Victoria and the current Sovereign.
