I was there in 1976 when she laid a wreath at the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier. I rated back then and the Secret Service knew me and allowed me to get as close as possible. I couldn't have been more than 10 feet away from her when she and Prince Philip descended the steps of the Memorial Ampitheater. Couldn't catch her eye, but Prince Philip looked right at me, smiled and nodded.

Queen Elizabeth I took this photo on July 7th 1976 on the plaza level at the base of the steps to the Lincoln Memorial. That is a full frame image, from a Kodachrome slide, shot with a 50mm lens. So you can imagine how close I was.

Andrea Mitchell can pound sand.
