The boom to the economy that the Government hoped the Games would bring to the capital appears to become a bust with tens of thousands to tourists spurning the hiked prices, congestion and heightened security. While bookings for July and August are down by 35 per cent on last year other European capitals appear to be prospering from Londons gloom.

Hell
Where the food is British
The cars are French
The police are German
The lovers are Swiss
And the whole thing is run by Italians
Absolutely, you nailed it with that contrasting example.
Very good call.
BTW: Here was a guy out screwing around on his wife, got AIDS, and then the rest of us were supposed to feel sorry for him. I was sorry he contracted the malady, but come on guy...
When they mention the 92 Dream Team, I think the 92 Nightmare.
I would like to see the 2012 Olympics be a success for the British people. I like Britain, and would be saddened to see this Olympics turn into a fiasco for them.
The gouging goes on when ever there’s going to be a popular event. This really isn’t anything new.
English food and English women are both very wrongly degraded.
Both are more than fine by me.
I’m sure there are good restaurants in London but darned if I could find them. The two good meals I had were in a Chinese seafood place and a middle eastern joint. The three Indian places were disappointing, with food inferior to what I get every week two miles from my workplace. Thumbs down as well on the fish and chips places I tried. After a couple of days I gave up on breakfast and bought fruit, pastry, and soy milk instead. Lunch was a sandwich or wrap and usually pretty decent. English chocolate was good, as was Costa’s coffee.
That’s an interesting point. I have tuned out so much that I hadn’t given that much thought. it’s a good point. There’s still the background seven minutes for sports that take less time to perform in though. Can’t tell you how much of a put-off that is for me.
I just DO NOT get into the touchy fealy aspects of it. We all have certain burdens to bear in life. Spare me yours. (not you) Please!
Evidently they thought more women would tune in if they made it a blubber-fest up front. They sure drove me away.
” I loved the amateur status aspect of the games. Now its just like watching professional sports. The whole mystic is gone.
Used to be youd watch the kids walking in and get real pride. Now you watch the pros walk in and fell more shame than pride.
I remember Magic Johnson and crew playing for our basketball team against nations with young kids who werent professionals. I was never in my life more ashamed of an aspect of our national image. “
Yep. I’m done with it too.
Can’t get decent fish and chips in London. This is a well-known fact throughout the rest of the country!
Most of that is gone.
Remember the old compliment..
...more balls than an East German Gymnast?
I’d like to get out into the countryside, after I see what I want around London.
Have fun at the “Games”.
Sad if true. A tour guide recommended “Poppies” for F&C in Whitechapel but I didn’t have time to get there.
A few years ago there was a documentary about the former East German women athletes, very sad story, a lot of them died of cancer, or are facing major medical issues from all of the doping.
Ah, so hard drugs have been legalized in the UK and even the government is on them. Seriously, what was the last time hosting the Olympic games was a boon for the host, never mind an economic boom?
Only the utterly corrupt IOC and all its cronies, functionaries, and "affiliates" are making a killing on the games.
The only ones i’ve had that were even half-decent were from a place on Borough High Street just down from the London Dungeon. The best fish and chips in the country, and thus the world, are from a little “chippy” in Whitby on the Yorkshire coast. The queue regularly stretches out of the door and down the road during peak times. Quite, quite wonderful :)
Sad too, because there’s so much potential for good concerning the Olympics.
There’s a lot of truth in that.
” Sad too, because theres so much potential for good concerning the Olympics.”
Yep. I have a lot of good memories of past Olympic events.
Nice, clean fun.
