The US was FOUNDED as a Republic but it has ceased to function as a Republic. A Republic is based on the rule of law as expressed in the constitution, that constitution is ignored almost totally now, even the courts that are sworn to uphold it make a mockery of it.

Presidential campaigns now are basically contests in offering to violate the constitution in various ways. Then the “winner” swears to uphold the same constitution which he promised to violate during the campaign. The Republic exists only on paper. This land is controlled by people who have zero interest in a Republic, they will say anything but their intention is to create a dictatorship by Oligarchy with the president functioning as a mouthpiece, a frontman, a puppet on a string controlled by those who are interested only in preserving their own power.

This is the situation we have brought about by ignoring the warnings of the founders, most of us are like pampered brats who have been given a huge inheritance but have no idea how to avoid squandering it, let alone how to make it grow. Many Americans don’t even know enough about history to have the foggiest notion of how this inheritance we have squandered came to be in the first place.
