The Celsius scale actually started out with 0 = BOILING point of water, and 100 = FREEZING point, because COLD was thought to be a fundamental force.
Finally someone gets the scale of things. Arithmetically, 100 degrees doesn't mean anything compared to 50 degrees, unless you're on the Kelvin scale (or the seldom used Rankine scale). In that case, 100 has twice the energy of 50.
So a change from 298 K (room temperature) to 299 is a change of 0.3 % or so.
