Both House, Senate pass income tax ban amendment

CONCORD – New Hampshire voters will be able to decide whether they want to prohibit an income tax at the November general election after both the House and Senate today approved CACR 13
The House approved CACR 13 by the necessary three-fifths majority to place the question on the November ballot. The House vote was 256-110.
In the Senate, the vote was 19-4.
The amendment would prohibit “an assessment, rate, or tax on income earned by a natural person other than taxes in effect on January 1, 2012, and adjustments to the rate of such taxes.”
Supporters say the amendment would enshrine the “New Hampshire Advantage” in the constitution, while opponents say the measure is short-sighted and will tie the hands of future legislators.
To become law, two-thirds of voters must approve it at November's general election.

consumption taxes inhibit freedom far less.
Personally I’d rather see property tax go before income tax. If you have to pay what amounts to rent to the state, county and/or municipality to keep what you “own” then you don’t own jack.
I’m jealous.
Just yesterday, some lady was on TV stating how “brave” former Connecticut Gov. Lowell Weicker was for instituting the income tax in 1992, and that it was the only way to run government.
Well, we kicked Weicker out of office, but we’re still stuck with his income tax. And now Connecticut is right behind CA/NJ/NY for budget problems, with no prospects for a recovery.

No kidding. I’m getting robbed literally by property taxes, $6700 per year on a 2000 sq ft house on 1.3 acres. No income tax or sales tax here, but property taxes more than make up for those.
How much is the house worth?
Looks to me that you need a “Prop 13” in your state.
Oooo, can I play? Try $5k a year property tax on a 1700sq ft, .19 acre cape cod, 4% income tax, 2% city tax, 1% regional income tax, and a 7.75% sales tax.

My house is also out in the boonies, rural farmland. WTH do they need all that money for?
I live in NH and there is no way the people of NH want an income tax. Although we pay no state income tax or sales tax the state still get its money from property tax, meal tax, vehicle registration fees, toll roads and other fees. So the no income tax is pretty much going to stay; now if they don’t vote for Obama come Nov. I will be happy!
What makes you think you’d ever trade one for the other? Our neighboring states who have sales AND income taxes still pay high property tax. Once you got it, it ain’t gonna go away; it’s only gonna grow, along with the spending and budget problems.
