Emboldened by Wisconsin victory, 2,000 conservative activists set to gather in Chicago

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's victory Tuesday in the state's recall election arrived at an opportune time for Midwestern Republicans, who on Friday will meet 125 miles southeast of the Wisconsin capital for a day-long gathering of more than 2,000 conservative activists.

The American Conservative Union, known for organizing CPAC, the largest annual meeting of conservatives in the country in Washington, D.C., will hold its second regional conference just outside Chicago, home to President Barack Obama and one of the most reliably Democratic areas of the country. The theme of the gathering is "Take Back the Midwest," and Walker's success undoubtedly will offer significant encouragement for attendees who view the area as an important battleground for Republicans in November...

(One afternoon panel, for instance, is titled, "Waking Goliath: The Midwest Stands Up to Union Special Interests.")

But despite the blue hue of Chicago and many urban areas in surrounding states, tea party Republicans claim a few recent scalps that they say could be a sign changing times. They point to John Kasich's rise to the governorship in Ohio in 2010, Indiana State Treasurer Richard Mourdock's victory over moderate Sen. Richard Lugar in May and, of course, Walker's triumph earlier this week.

"A lot of the exciting things that are happening to conservatives are happening in the Midwest," Cardenas said. "What better place to go than the president's own backyard?"

The packed schedule for the event includes speeches from a handful of possible Republican vice presidential contenders, including Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey, Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana and Gov. Bob McDonnell of Virginia, as well as appearances by former Republican presidential candidates Rick Santorum, Rep. Michele Bachmann and Herman Cain...

Oh... and the historic 2010 midterm. Forgot about that one.

Not to mention New Jersey and Virginia! (Conveniently forgotten, also)

They should have a plan in place for what to do if the Occupiers decide to violently crash the meeting.

They also forgot Michigan, where the RATS hold no statewide offices and no control in the state House or Senate.

The RATS in MI are powerless, even the courts are under conservative control.

Occupiers crashing the building?

Chicago city bosses will be leading the way in.

This event should have been held in Michigan where our foot dragging RINOs might have been emboldened a bit.

The other really rotten thing about holding it in Chicago is Illinois and Chicago don’t recognize the Second Amendment.

I just don’t see any changes coming to Illinois anytime soon. We’ve done some serious heavy lifting in Michigan over the last few years and I just fear that we’ll lose the momentum without some external backup.

Meanwhile the unions never let up. They’re trying to get a right to steal inserted into the state constitution and have found a new group of non employees they want to unionize as a source of dues.

Holy heck. I would not hold a conservative “anything” in Chicago right now unless I was armed to the teeth and had an army of private security people.

Leftists have been severely beaten in Wisconsin, and they do not take losing gracefully. In “Godfather” Rahm Emanuel’s Chicago, unions are king, which basically means open season on conservatives. The police won’t arrest anyone who attacks them, but will arrest conservatives who resist. The fire department won’t cross the street to put them out if they are on fire.

They may be denied medical care if any of them become sick or injured. Their cars will be heavily ticketed. Their hotel rooms will be canceled. Geez, that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

I strongly suspect there will be serious violence and all sorts of other crime directed at them.
