Do you know whether the U-2 experienced some type of problem requiring Powers to descend to a lower altitude?

I think it was over/near Sverdlovsk (Yekaterinburg since 1991), SE of Moscow. We (U.S.) didn’t belive that the USSR’s SAMs were capable of reaching the altitude at which Powers was flying. BZZZZT.
