I don't think California will be as Easy a Win For 0bama as He Thinks

Posted on 06/08/2012 11:19:19 AM PDT by nuke rocketeer

I made an interesting observation here in Southern California a few minutes ago.

Background:

We are on vacation here after seeing my #3 son coming back from an overseas deployment in the Marines. FWIW, it was with the 1/4 on a MEU "booze Cruise" in the Western Pacific. I backed into a support pole in the underground garage at the hotel yesterday and made wuite a dent in the passenger door of the rental. I took it to a body shop here in San Clemente so I could get an idea of how much it's gonna cost me.

While waiting for the owner to get me an estimate I was looking at the various cars in the shop. I saw only ONE car with an 0bama sticker, and 5 with Romney or Republican/Libertarian stickers. While yacking with the owner we got to talking about government and he asked me where I was originally from. I told him Texas, and he then told me that if he could get out from under his mortgage here, he'd move his business to the DFW area and get out of here. Quite a few of the business owners here on the beach area have left because of the regulations and taxes. He detests 0bama, as do most business owners here.

I don't think California will be a complete shoo-in for 0bama this fall.

In my twice daily, 45 minute comute to work each day (albeit only 12 miles)I have yet to see a Romney bumper sticker. And I do pass the time by looking at bumpers! This is in the San Fernando Valley.

Californians are seeing day in and day out the failures of their Democratrically-run state and more independents are turning against the Dems.

Some are, but not enough of them. My sister has the unfortunate circumstance of having to live there and the people she works with are still rabid libs who are convinced everything will be fine if Sacramento would just tax the "rich" a lot more (never mind many of the "rich" are trying to escape that state).

My hat’s off to conservatives who try to make a go of living out there. I will never move back.

I moved out of CA after my networth had gone down by $2,500

That really is significant. I am glad you left but 2500? That does not seem like a lot to me in the big scheme of life.

I (in Santa Monica) am afraid to put up yard signs.

Shameful we have to live in that environment now. In time, people out there will be made to fear speaking English or practicing Christianity.

So I see you are forecasting simultaneous 7.0 earthquakes in LA and SF on election day that will disrupt voting?

I will be moving to CA in two weeks so you will have one more conservative to share your suffering.

You have my most sincere sympathy.

There's not enough money..... there's not enough hot chick's "sweaty thigh".... there's not fame or fortune that would ever have me relocate to CA.

I live in Southern CA - born & raised in Riverside County the largest county in So Cal and is mostly conservative...California has a big conservative population BUT Los Angeles and San Fran totally negate this. Oh well the weather ROCKS. ;)

My FRiend, In 3.5 years, I had not only not made any upwardly wealth building momentum, but had actually lossed value it my total net worth. Those were the BOOM DAYS of Silicon Valley. I was in the middle of it.

Here is the significance. I was just out of college (that I paid for with loans and hard work) and as poor as any college student could be. My total net worth when I moved out there was only about $10,000 (including student loans, my truck and investments).

The state will be forced into the situation WI and MI are digging out of. Those states swung republican when they got bad enough.

True re: WI and MI, but those states' populations are such that the conservative bastions can overcome those of the loony left. Problem with CA is, the loons in SF and LA don't care about the fiscal situation. And they know at the end of the day the feds will give it to them if the state were to fail, so they'll get their slice of the pie no matter what. They see their situation as a no-lose one. And never forget about the rapidly growing population of Mexicans who have anschluess with the Fatherland on their mind. The singular hope for CA is if it splits into two entities, which won't happen. The big cities need to leech the resources of the other regions.

LOL. I'm calling BS. You are far more superficial than that. An offer of $1,000,000 and a room with a playmate at the mansion and you'd forget what country you were from.

It’s not hot chicks for sure, and it’s not hot guys either. Its kids and grandkids. I will give it a couple of years and will move back east if things are too miserable.

Thanks for the explanation. I thought it was a situation where you were older around 43 and had 350K in wealth built up like everyone else and you lost 2500.....Wow...10 grand and you lost 2500 is definitely a lot.

Yes, it is depressing but Full Speed Ahead. Rome wasn’t built in a day and all that.

I went down to Tea Party office after the Wisconsin WIN, totally energized to fight for November. Romney needs every vote he can get, the Dems need to be totally demoralized. There are plenty of conservatives here in California, altho maybe not a majority.

On the other hand, my DIL’s mother and grandmother, both Jewish/ New Jerseyites — both voted for Obama last time around, both are voting for Romney. Gma is very liberal but fed up.

Just one brief comment: If the state of Wisconsin can go Republican, there is hope for California. Can’t help it, I’m an optimist and maybe a fool at the same time. I just think Obama is not going to do too good with Latinos and many Blacks will stay home and not vote. But....we shall see shortly!!!

You were in Orange County. One of the very few conservative places in the state.
