Atlanta, GA --(Ammoland.com)- Knife Rights is pleased to announce that Roger Claunch is the recipient of its 2012 Freedoms Guardian Award which was presented at the Knife Rights Sharper Future Awards Breakfast on June 9th during BLADE Show in Atlanta, Georgia.
Mr. Claunch is the founder and owner of KnifeWorks.com, a knife retailer located in Columbia, Louisiana.
The annual Freedoms Guardian award honors a knife manufacturer or industry partner that has demonstrated their commitment to a Sharper Future by their support of the fight to protect or enhance our knife rights.
Knife Rights Chairman Doug Ritter said, Since the day Roger was introduced to Knife Rights it seems he has never said no, regardless of the request. Roger was one of the first to make a very substantial donation to the Knife Rights Sharper Future Legal Fund in our fight against New York City. He has continued to make additional generous donations, as well as donations of knives and services.
Ritter continued, Roger serves as a shining example to others in the industry of the support we need to help Knife Rights fight for a Sharper Future for all Americans. We are extremely grateful for his continued generous support.
Knife Rights is succeeding far out of proportion to its size in part due to the industry support we have received. We sincerely appreciate those in industry who help us get so much done that is critical to knife owners, and the industry as well. This award is a way to publicly acknowledge and honor these guardians of our freedoms, said Ritter.

I offer a few quips on this issue:
1. If you think this is an insignificant topic, check out the rights to carry a knife in Great Britain; there aren't any. Once the citizenry lost their right to own a firearm, the Parliament quickly followed up its tyranny by banning the carrying of any knives.
2. Just as there are classes on the use and safety of firearms, there should be similar classes for the use and safety of knife fighting. Having some oldster pull a knife to scare some threatening thug is tantamount to suicide as the thug will be enraged and granddad will be baffled that his threat went unheeded.
3. I'm not sure which is scarier, facing a robber with a gun, or facing a robber with a knife.
Just a few random thoughts...
True for WAY too many, although I do know a few coots who picked up knife techniques when in callings that required them; one of them in particular would leave a young orc stunned and leaking badly before he knew what hit him. One thing they all have in common is that nobody would suspect they even had a blade until a line was crossed and it was in use.
(Personally, I'm too slow, out-of-shape and generally "fumbly" these days for anything that requires much finessing, so for me, "keep it simple stupid" applies with firearms AND knives. I'd need to be in damnably dire straits to depend on an edged weapon at this time of life, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't want one available.)
I don't know or deal with too many people who show up as the subject of FR threads, but I have been a customer of KnifeWorks for a while (in fact, they sold me the first really good knife I owned), and it is nice to see Roger get some credit for his efforts.
Mr. niteowl77
My limited study of knife techniques has convinced me that keeping the knife out of sight until needed, is usually good advice.
