If he can’t fix the economy (and he can’t), all of this data mining is worthless.

Yesterday I was surfing FR and caught a post about the Keltec shotgun. I searched over to their site and was infected by several Trojans that lock my computer for hours. It mimicked a hard drive crash and nearly had me convinced that it was wiped. I trust both of the sites I visited, but...
I don't know that this was in any way related to this data mining but once they know you are against them they easily could use that info to harass. Viruses, Trojans, ID theft/manipulation.
Would not surprise me a bit.

In marketing it really has a lot to do with the product.
A regular story in marketing is about a dog food company who spent tons of money trying to sell a new line. The upper management threatened and yelled and the team tried everything (just like obummer)..until one day the janitor comes in to the room and tells them - the dogs just don’t like the dog food and your not going to change that.

Data mining the Independent voter is the key.

Dave Methews Baand sold out in the Albany NY area, drawing 25,000 each night, Saturday and Sunday.
Also had a Register to Vote Promotion.
Is that a “mining the vote” operation?

Look for Romney to still beat Obama, Obama forgets that it is still “the economy stupid!”

“Through Facebook, Twitter and other online sources, the campaign is working tirelessly to create a formidable data base collecting specific profiles of potential voters.”

So they will tailor their campaign to appeal to a bunch of brainless kids under 30, a group that already votes overwhelmingly liberal.

Pure genius, that!

If Fox network TV were to run a Star Trek movie marathon on election day none of the idiots would make it to the polls.

He can make all the targeted appeals he wants but when the mass of voters know you and your promises can’t be trusted such promises are not very effective.

Garbage in, garbage out.

Flood their trusted social networks with false data.

Create a false facebook account on how much you love Obama, will give away your lifes fortune, home and first born to him.

Flood the network with gobblygook.

Regardless what experts say quantity has its own quality when done large enough, a grassroots plan of action to figuratively urinate in their swimming pool will make it foul smelling and unusable.

Every day a small function like sending an email to yourself congratulating Obama will take away a resource from them when they then try to track it and to send you progressive suggestions and spam.

Sometimes you have to get down and dirty to clean up the overflowing cesspool. Turn their game against them, use their rules to befuddle them.

I'm not a techie at all. Is this important?

Four years ago it mattered because he was an unknown quantity with no paper trail who could be packaged as a rock start.

He is no longer an unknown quantity. We know he's not a rock star.

We conservatives underestimate the power of social media to GOTV at our own peril. We would be wise to take social media a little more seriously.

Just did a quick check and Barack Obama has 29 million "likes" on Facebook and about 16 million followers on Twitter. By comparison, Mitt Romney has about 2 million likes and only a fraction of the Twitter followers that Obama has.

Now it's easy to sit here and scoff at that and say "so what?" But consider that whenever Obama sends out a Twit, it's landing on almost 20 million cellphones across America. If, on election day, he can get 10% of those followers to go to the polls (when they otherwise would have forgotten about it), that's two million extra votes right there. That could make a huge difference.

Now granted, Obama doesn't have anywhere near the enthusiasm he had four years ago. But we must not be complacent.

In a way, Free Republic itself is part of social media. But remember that our numbers only reflect a small fraction of the conservatives and independents that are out there. The Tea Party movement needs to get a little savvier with respect to social media.

My wife and I watch “The Pitch” on AMC. We are continually amazed at the incompetence of the winning agencies’ campaigns. PR has little effect upon trying to sell a repackaged bum to the public.

I have talked to IT techies who worked on a huge data mining project in New York State. It was intended to identify New York residents who bought stuff via mail order or who shopped at malls in other states, but did not pay NY sales tax. It would identify these purchases and then crank out tax bills to them.

The techies who worked on this thing openly referred to it as “Eliot Spitzer’s Wet Dream”. We can only imagine what the Democrats intend to do with the data from this fishing expedition.

The Obama techie campaign can’t be all THAT sophisticated... they still have me on their email list.... I get that trash from Biden, and Moochelle all the time... just to let Gmail be confused.

However, whoever is running DU has it figured out. I signed up, using a different email account (one that I haven’t used much). Made ONE post... that was innocuous.. no political slant either way.. and, they canceled my account. Didn’t take them long to figure out that I am ultra-conservative.

Grocery stores requiring you to get a savings card for the sale prices. This allows them to keep a record of your purchases and target emails and printed coupons to your spending habits. In my experience, I have gotten spam and coupons about kids products, snack foods, etc. I imagine Obama’s data mining will mean if I buy female items at the store, I will receive an Obama spam telling me that Romney will take away my contraception choices or something like that.

If they can find unregistered, pro-Obama users of facebook, bulletin boards, etc., then I suppose 150 researchers could come up with an impressive list. But, a person-by-person search would take a lot of time, imho. If each of the 150 found was able to ID one person an hour, I’d think that would be exceptional. On a 12 hour day between now and the election that would total only about a quarter million people.

That’s not really that many voters. They’d do better to discover some formula that ID’s these people, but no matter how the ID process goes, they’d still have to get them inspired enough to register and then to vote.

An unregistered Obama sympathizer doesn’t strike me as an easily motivated person. I simply can’t see motivating them to go out and find others like themselves. I can’t even see it being easy to motivate them to get registered, must less get them to actually vote.
