Gay pageant winner beheaded

Cape Town - A 23-year-old man from Kuruman, in the Northern Cape, was beheaded last Friday, allegedly because he was gay.

Thapelo Makutle was attacked at his place of work in the John Taolo Gaetsewe district on Friday, MambaOnline quoted the NGO Legbo Northern Cape as saying.

Makutle apparently got into an argument with two heterosexual men over his sexuality.

The attackers allegedly followed him to the room where he lived and cut his throat, decapitating him.

Makutle, who identified as both gay and transgender, was a volunteer for Legbo Northern Cape which provides support for LGBTI persons in rural communities.

He was recently crowned Miss Gay Kuruman and took part in the Kimberley Out In Africa Gay and Lesbian Festival.

"It's so sad. I can't describe the pain that we are feeling right now," Shaine Griqua, the Legbo Northern Cape director, told Mambaonline. "We have lost a young, talented, gay man who was open about who he was. The last few days have been like a dark cloud."

Griqua said that hate crimes were on the rise in the province. He said that a lesbian was recently attacked at a bar but chose not to press charges as she didn’t want to involve her family.

Cosatu in the Northern Cape also condemned the killing and urged the provincial government to call a summit on hate crime.

Makutle’s funeral will be held on Saturday in Kuruman.

“Legbo Northern Cape which provides support for LGBTI persons”

I get the LGB and T but what’s the “I” for? In between?

His last words to his lover as he left were “well, I’m heading out now”.

I’m sure it was some white South Africans that did this.

I think the "B" for bisexual covers that one. Perhaps it means "Inquisitive"? I've never seen it before.

You may be right. I’ve seen them use “Q” for “questioning”. But, any way that you cut it, the whole bloody thing’s absurd.

Sandusky should meet the same fate. There is more to the story then what is in print. Homo propaganda is not selling so well.

Am guessing this was a 'gay night club' that he was challenged in? If so; then it would appear that the men in 'question' may have intended to at least, harass; and maybe much worse; the victim.

More info per 'google'. . .A few notes per one excerpt. (Which clearly, informs us, that like many other environments; being Gay in South Africa is more than just 'risky' behavior.)

(While he attended; Makutle didn’t enter the pageant, as some media reports have suggested.)

South Africa guarantees the rights of LGBT people, though hate crimes are not uncommon. A lesbian in the Northern Province was recently stabbed in a bar, according the Legbo Northern Cape.

n Uganda, legislator David Bahati pressed for a measure to impose in the death penalty for homosexuality, but the bill was shelved following a storm of international criticism. He reintroduced the bill, which dropped the capital punishment clause>I> but increased the penalties for homosexuality, in February to applause from fellow legislators.

Traditionalists, led by the Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa, are campaigning to have the equal rights clause for LGBT people removed from the constitution.

In October 2010, a Ugandan newspaper published a list of dozens of gay people with photographs, under the heading “Hang Them.” Ugandan gay activist David Kato, among those who picture was published, was slain with a hammer several months later.

Now; am curious as to 'who' the Traditionalists are. . .another google; this, one; will do later.

Aw shucks, guess this means no Gay Wedding Honeymoon trips to Cape Town, SA

Au Contraire.
We should encourage it, perhaps subsidize it with our most egregious militants.
