Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) is vowing to break with conservatives in his party and help confirm President Obama's controversial choice for ambassador to El Salvador when she comes before the Senate, possibly as early as Wednesday.
Obama gave Mari Carmen Aponte a recess appointment in 2010 but it expired at the end of last year after Senate Republicans filibustered her. Some Republicans have raised concerns that Aponte might have dated a Cuban spy 20 years ago, while others sought to use her nomination to pressure the administration to change other Latin American policies.
Rubio, a possible GOP vice presidential candidate and rising star in the Republican Party, initially opposed Aponte's nomination, but has since shifted, a spokesman told The Hill.
“When this issue came up last year, Sen. Rubio was opposing several western hemisphere nominations because of concerns with the administration’s policies in the hemisphere, especially in Nicaragua,” Rubio spokesman Alex Conant told The Hill in an email. “We worked behind the scenes with the Administration and reached an agreement on Nicaragua, so the senator agreed to vote for cloture on Aponte and find enough Republican votes (6) for her to pass.”
“Since Sen. Rubio’s opposition was never based on her personally and the administration has address(ed) his policy concerns, he looks forward to voting for her whenever Senator [Harry] Reid (D-Nev.) brings her up for another vote.”
Conant added that Rubio has found enough Republicans for her to get the 60 votes she needs. One of those Republicans, Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), is still recovering from a stroke, however.
Rubio is under pressure from powerful Hispanic groups to support Aponte, who was born in Puerto Rico. Conant said Aponte has personally thanked Rubio for his support.
I have a bad feeling about Rubio. His abuse of corporate credit cards bothers me. A lot of people will say “no big deal.” I say where there is smoke there is fire. People who abuse corporate credit cards by charging personal expenses to them have serious charecter flaws and show bad management skills. I have seen this many times at my work and in local politics. The oppositon will start digging and find plenty of ammunition. Governor McDonnell of Virginia would be a much better VP nominee.
With all the constant pushing of Rubio in addition to all the Jeb Bush crap lately, I’ve come to the conslusion that Rubio is an establishment ploy. I hope Romney picks someone else to run with him. And if Rubio proves to be another wolf in the fold, then he can be removed from the senate instead of being the next moderate heir apparent.

Anything that wakes conservatives up to pro-amnesty, Bush-property Sen. Rubio is a good thing.
I agree. As ambassador, she reports to HIllary anyway. It's not as if she will have any influence on policy. Save the filibuster for the judges.
Rubio is your typical “Hispanic” whose “race” is above ANYTHING. All of the FL “Tea Party” types got SUCKERED into supporting this POS. Remember you can REALLY trust VERY FEW Blacks(Cain, Alan West being some of the VERY FEW exceptions) and “Hispanics(mostly MEXICANS)” are MOSTLY the same as Blacks.
I plan to vote... for Goode. It will not be my fault when Obama beats Obama-lite. If O’Romney needs my vote in Tennessee, he has already lost.
I need a good bit more information before *jumping to conclusions* regarding this decision by Senator Rubio.

Rubio is obviously not ready for primetime. Now, when the wheels are coming off the Obama Administration clown car, Rubio should not be making any “deals” with them.
But that is what inexperinece, stupidity and non-eligibility for President and VP gets you.
Our Constitution only mentions or envisions THREE types of citizens - those who were citizens at the time of adoption (most born as natural born subjects of England, and now all deceased) those who were natural born as citizens of these United States, and those who had to be naturalized.
Marco Rubio was not naturalized and had no need of naturalization because he was born a citizen of these United States.
Currently there are only two types of citizenship in the United States - natural born or naturalized. U.S. law envisions two and only two ways of becoming a U.S. citizen; one is either born with natural allegiance and thus is a citizen at birth, or one must be naturalized as a citizen.
I agree. I can’t understand why Republicans feel this need to work with Democrats. These aren’t the Dems of yesteryear, who could at least be reasoned with. Today’s Dems are a virulent breed who never capitulate to the GOP, yet scream partisanship and obstruction when the GOP won’t work with them. Their favorite trick is to scream loud enough until some Republican, wanting to appear statesmanlike, supports them on something. When it is exposed as lousy policy, Dems immediately point out that it had GOP support. Like I always say, liberals don’t need to be understood, accepted, or listened to. They need to be exposed and defeated!Rubio, they are not your friends!
I think somebody’s gotten to him, told him that he needs to moderate if he wants a future in the party, come up with some progressive piece of legislation, appear to work across the aisle. He’s being pushed to the front of the pack far to much for it to be conincidence. Frankly, I’m getting sick of hearing about him.

It’s Rubio’s closeness to Jeb “amnesty” Bush that has long given me pause (and considering some of the recent quotes from Jeb, it only manages to heighten my alarm). Rubio certainly gives a good speech. And, I sometimes think I might go overboard in my paranoid wariness. But dammit, after the past few years of seeing various Republicans supporting open-borders amnesty, to repeatedly backstabbing Palin and the Tea Party movement, I just no longer have the reservoir of generic trust in the GOP I used to have. Quite the opposite, actually.
The more I hear about this man, the less I like him.
