Rubio to help Obama on confirmation
The Hill ^ | 13 June 2012 | Julian Pecquet

Posted on 06/13/2012 9:47:58 AM PDT by Theoria

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) is vowing to break with conservatives in his party and help confirm President Obama's controversial choice for ambassador to El Salvador when she comes before the Senate, possibly as early as Wednesday.

Obama gave Mari Carmen Aponte a recess appointment in 2010 but it expired at the end of last year after Senate Republicans filibustered her. Some Republicans have raised concerns that Aponte might have dated a Cuban spy 20 years ago, while others sought to use her nomination to pressure the administration to change other Latin American policies.

Rubio, a possible GOP vice presidential candidate and rising star in the Republican Party, initially opposed Aponte's nomination, but has since shifted, a spokesman told The Hill.

“When this issue came up last year, Sen. Rubio was opposing several western hemisphere nominations because of concerns with the administration’s policies in the hemisphere, especially in Nicaragua,” Rubio spokesman Alex Conant told The Hill in an email. “We worked behind the scenes with the Administration and reached an agreement on Nicaragua, so the senator agreed to vote for cloture on Aponte and find enough Republican votes (6) for her to pass.”

“Since Sen. Rubio’s opposition was never based on her personally and the administration has address(ed) his policy concerns, he looks forward to voting for her whenever Senator [Harry] Reid (D-Nev.) brings her up for another vote.”

Conant added that Rubio has found enough Republicans for her to get the 60 votes she needs. One of those Republicans, Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), is still recovering from a stroke, however.

Rubio is under pressure from powerful Hispanic groups to support Aponte, who was born in Puerto Rico. Conant said Aponte has personally thanked Rubio for his support.

“Marco Rubio was not naturalized and had no need of naturalization because he was born a citizen of these United States.”

RIGHT, to be a “CITIZEN”. Natural born citizen, is another matter. About that YOU ARE WRONG! Original Intent AND the Supreme Court agree that to be an Article II, Section 1, Clause 5, Natural Born Citizen, you have to be born in the country AND BOTH parents had to be citizens. It couldn't be any clearer.

Did you not see the long article a few days ago?

“Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) is vowing to break with conservatives”

What other vows of conservatism is he willing to break?

Rubio was born in the US and meets all other legitimate qualifications.

Both of his parents were US Citizens when he was born?

Don't be a rube. The constitution doesn't define hardly any of its terms.

According to the law most founders were familiar with and/or trained in; English law - one was natural born if they were born into that condition of allegiance.

According to the first naturalization law of 1790, while the founders were still extant and in service to this nation - the children of citizens born overseas were natural born and thus in no need of naturalization. How is that for original intent?

Vattel never used the term “natural born citizen” - but he figured the indigenous or native citizens should be those born of citizens and in country (with a few exceptions) - and all others would have to be naturalized.

In all cases one is either natural born or one must be naturalized.

According to our Constitution and U.S. law; one is either natural born or naturalized.

There is no third type of citizenship currently. There was, and it was those who were citizens at the time of the adoption of the Constitution. Most of these were born as natural born subjects of England - and they did not have to be born in England of two citizen parents to be natural born subjects of England. They simply had to be born as subjects of England to be natural born subjects of England - and they were.

He’s “growing in office” and is “learning to play ball” all the while “reaching across the aisle” .....its the metamorphosis of a Conservative to a Rino....the final coup comes when he starts collecting “campaign donations” to his “re-election (oops..”retirement”) fund in return for his “bipartisanship”;

At that point he no longer is free to vote the Conservative/Constitutional ticket on behalf of We the People. He is then owned.

Marco Rubio

born May 28, 1971 in Miami, FL (Meets the Jus Soli Requirement)

Parents were
Mario Rubio born in Cuba, naturalized Nov. 5, 1975.
Oria Garcia born in Cuba, naturalized Nov. 5, 1975.

Parents were NOT US Citizens at the time of his birth (Does NOT meet the Jus Sanguinis Requirement)

Marco Rubio is NOT a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN.

Marco's status is the same as that of Barry Soetoro, aka Barack Hussein Obama, who is NOT a Natural Born Citizen.

I agree with your thoughts here. Rush used to talk about the futility of compromising with Liberals. You can’t compromise with someone when you are supporting sound policy, and they are supporting totalitarianism or anarchy. If you move one inch off sound policy, it’s a loss.

Yes, we always have our McCains, Grahams, Snows... when the Dems come calling. One Republican in the Senate that votes with the Democrats, has a louder voice than the 45 who didn’t.

I’m sick of that.

Parents don’t have to be born in the US, just citizens. I’ve read there is some doubt about Romney’s father, I have no idea.

Your nastiness and leftist garbage talking points are duly noted.
