I like that! Seems like an eminently sensible, high probability explanation. And it ratchets down the hysteria. Were the recent storms larger than they usually get in that area? Have they seen this sort of thing during other storms?

It's the sub-tropics heading into the rainy season. May and June are historically wet with precip falling in thunderstorm events, so expect brief heavy rains that can be quite erosive.
