Same-sex parents sue over North Carolina adoption law

A civil liberties group filed a federal lawsuit on Wednesday challenging North Carolina's prohibition against same-sex couples adopting each other's children.

The ban on so-called second parent adoptions violates the constitutional rights of gay and lesbian parents and their children, according to the complaint filed in Greensboro by the American Civil Liberties Union.

North Carolina is one of eight U.S. states where same-sex couples are barred from adopting children together and/or are not allowed to have one partner adopt the other's biological or adoptive children, according to the ACLU.

A December 2010 decision by the North Carolina Supreme Court held that state statutes allowed married couples, stepparents and individuals to adopt, but blocked gay or straight unmarried couples from doing so, said Chris Brook, legal director of the ACLU in North Carolina.

The state does not recognize same-sex marriages, and voters in May approved an amendment to add that ban to the state constitution.

North Carolina doesn’t accept same-sex marriage.

Romney, however, came out in favor of gay couples adopting children if done at the state level.

A change in regime won’t help this situation.

If the unmarried heterosexual or homosexual couple is living together with the child/ren of either or both persons, legal adoption of the child/ren by the non-parent wouldn’t change the living arrangment.

As you point out, what they must really be after is adoption of unrelated children by homosexual sex-partners.

Nobody has the ‘right’ to adopt.

What's next? A paranoid schizophrenic demanding the right to adopt?

Yes, and very few preachers are speaking out against it...they sold their souls for the 501C3 tax exemption.

Ours only preaches LONG winded about love, goodness, giving...and not one word on what God forbids or the book of Revelations. Of course you can’t expect a Methodist to speak about the warnings or Revelations. Right has become wrong, and wrong has become right...Bible prophecy fulfilled.

Last Sunday he spent nearly 30 mins on anniversaries asking each group starting at 70 to stand up, went down to 10 years. What a waste of preaching time, and my back and gut were hurting. I am post op only about a month, and have a very degenerative back.

We stopped going on Communion Sunday as it was nearly 2 hrs long. He keeps this up and I won’t be going until I am totally healed from my surgery...I have a upper GI to do on Wed no telling what that will find. And he always does a biopsy and your gut hurts for 2 weeks.

I walked out of a 4 year marriage to an abusive man, that side was never revealed until we had kids, it was the kids he directed his abuse towards...never looked back. Raised 2 healthy and happy boys. Took me a very long time to trust again. Chose wiser the second time around. We had 23 years before he was called Home.
