It all boils down to taking the easy way out. Much easier to tell Congress to offer guarantees than tell Congress to write decent laws that allow the markets to function correctly; that requires difficult thinking, slapping an unlimited taxpayer-backed guarantee is quick and easy.

IMHO, we should stay diversified and at the forefront of technology. Oh, and stay clean and safe, under the heading “don’t p@@p where we eat”.

I wonder if it has to do with the way the Brits do numbers. Their Billion and our Billion are different. They call 1000000000 a thousand million, and 1000000000000 a billion (our trillion).

Since India does things the British way in general, that could be it (though GigaWatt is a formal metric unit of course using billion from our nomenclature).

A giga is 1000 million the world around. I seem to see the British press has come around to our way. Most people in the U.S. or Britain are not clear on what a trillion or quadrillion is, or if there is any difference between British and American usage.

India uses “Lakhs” and “Crores” instead of millions and billions.

1 million = 10Lakh
1 Billion = 100 Crore

Giga and Mega are the same everywhere.
