If government had, from the start, simply not offered guarantees, insurance companies would have supplied policies.

I doubt it. Most likely the plants wouldn't have been built.

With our natural resources we should be building all coal and natural gas plants.

It all boils down to taking the easy way out. Much easier to tell Congress to offer guarantees than tell Congress to write decent laws that allow the markets to function correctly; that requires difficult thinking, slapping an unlimited taxpayer-backed guarantee is quick and easy.

IMHO, we should stay diversified and at the forefront of technology. Oh, and stay clean and safe, under the heading “don’t p@@p where we eat”.
