Actually there was a much older version but I can’t remember who sang it.

It was Hank Snow, his was the hit version. No one ever heard of it by Cash until that commercial. And for the record, it’s really an Australian song, so Hank Snow’s people had to translate all those Australian cities into American cities. Pretty amazing.
