Reid Statement On Obama Administration Immigration Announcement
United States Senate Democrats, ^ | 6/15/12 | Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid

Posted on 06/15/2012 5:40:58 PM PDT by mdittmar

Washington, D.C. — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid issued the following statement today after the Obama Administration announced it would suspend the deportation of young people who were brought to this country illegally through no fault of their own. The directive from Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano comes after a yearlong review, and will be applied in a case-by-case basis to young people who came to the United States before age 16, who have resided in the United States continuously for at least five years before today’s date, who have not been convicted of any felony or serious crime, and who are not older than 30 years old. This deferred action is temporary and renewable.

“I congratulate President Obama and Secretary Napolitano for this thoughtful decision that benefits not just the DREAMers and the young people seeking a future in the only country they’ve ever known, but our entire nation as well. These young people were brought here through no fault of their own, and many do not even remember the countries where they were born. When they pledge allegiance, it is to the United States. They belong to this country culturally and linguistically and are American in all but paperwork. These talented individuals want to defend our nation in our military, and contribute to our country through their hard work.

“President Obama’s courageous decision removes the specter of deportation that hovered over these deserving individuals and frees up law enforcement resources to focus on people who are a threat to our public safety and national security. I hope Republicans, especially those who have voiced a willingness to help these young people, will support the Administration’s directive.

“The President can only do so much administratively and this measure is temporary and limited by current law. The onus is now on Congress to permanently fix our broken immigration system, and I call on my Republican colleagues to help us pass the DREAM Act along with comprehensive immigration reform that is tough, fair and practical. We need to secure our borders; hold unscrupulous employers accountable; reform our nation’s legal immigration system; and require the 11 million who are undocumented to register with the government, pay taxes, pay fines, learn English and then go back to the end of the line.”

So, Harry, if someone stole your car and gifted it to me, I should be able to keep it?

I am sick to death of that meme. It seems the very least we can do is send the parents who WERE responsible back to their homelands.

The Senate of the United States, once upon a time the world’s most deliberative body welcomes Presidential usurpation of its legislative prerogatives.

Reid is full of crap. He has no intention of requiring illegals to do any of the things he indicated in his statement.

Can someone tell me what authority Napolitano has to decide which illegals can stay in the country?

What Federal laws are we enforcing this week? I need to know, as there are some things I might want to do, maybe, but they are currently illegal. Maybe I aught to do them, get busted and sue for selective enfocement.
I have no respect for the law, merely a very real fear that it will be used against me in an arbitrary and capricious manner.
I’m glad I am not trying to teach a child to be be a law abiding citizen.
To all you good people that have immigrated in the expensive, time consuming and legal manner, I apologize on behalf of my once great nation.

That's the whole scam right there. Would you then further victimize them by deporting their parents ? They are already children without a country. And since they are here and their parents have to stay here with them, I guess we should let them all vote. You know the taxation without representation thing. /s

Should be worth about 800 000 votes. I mean, if the dead can vote for Obama, why can’t underage illegals?

Think I have come up with a real money saver for the country. Just cancel congress, send them home, fire their staffs and let Obama rule. That is what is happening now, congress really doesn’t matter, we are no longer a constitutional nation.

IMPEACH both Reid and Piglosi since they obviously support the WON in every single extra-Constiutional act. The Fed Govt has been completely taken over by the commies.

"The President can only do so much administratively..."

Uh, gee whiz, Harry, it seems he can do ANYTHING "administratively", including circumventing the will of the Legislative body of our government. How many times was the DREAM ACT shut down? Yes, I know this directive is not amnesty, but might as well be, and includes many parts of the ACT Congress voted against numerous times.

Reid, you socialist dumb ass, your Campaigner-in-Chief has now made your branch of government pointless. How's it feel? But he's your guy, so that's okay, right?

I only hope you and Pelosi and Frank and Dodd and Waters and all your other socialist buddies some day look back on your actions from your dying beds and realize what you did to the original best hope for this rock. I hope you then "feel your pain" as Billy (is/is) Clinton used to say. I despise you all and often wish that my 11 years Aviation Naval service excluded you from my and others' sacrifice.

I dream of all you collectivists being on a rock in the middle of the Pacific and watching which survive and which flourish. Harry, you'd be the first to lose in a "lord of the flies" situation, because like many life politicians, you have no skills other than to bullshit for more dollars for your next election. Shame on Nevada.

I never ever thought I would agree with such a statement, but now I do. However, I would recommend to all parents to teach their children to play along with the countless un-Constitutional laws that intrude on our daily lives, and learn the history of our once great nation and develop a plan to counter its slide into oblivion. Bad times are coming - I'm cashing out.
