when my 15 year old adopted son from Colombia was in “English second language” class, the other students were from Mexico, and they were all a lot older than 15.
apparantly they just came to the US to work as soon as they were old enough.
I have no problem in deciding these things on a case to case basis, especially for folks who have been working for years without causing trouble. But this “amnesty” could lead to the failure of being able to deport gang members, and that worries me.
It's unfortunate that we didn't have a mechanism in place to deal with this, something that would give preference to those who were brought over as infants and toddlers, have been fully Americanized and are currently law-abiding, studious and productive. But we didn't and now we have a blanket amnesty that protects the gang-banger just as much as the honor student. I blame the "deport 'em all!" folks for poisoning the well over this issue with their rigid and politically unrealistic demands just as much as I blame Obama.
