In West Bend, you can carry books - and guns(WI barf alert)

The gun ban at West Bend's public library has been shelved.

I can see it now. Somebody steps up to the circulation desk and the librarian asks, "Is that a gun in your pocket or are you just ecstatic to have found 'Fifty Shades of Grey'?"

Patrons of the West Bend Community Memorial Library can now pack heat - whether they're into the steamy "Shades" trilogy or not.

Last November, the Library Board voted to keep the building a gun-free zone in the wake of the new state law allowing people with permits to carry concealed weapons. But that was then.

Tuesday, a newly constituted board reversed course - minus a member who wasn't confirmed for reappointment because of that earlier vote and two others who resigned on their own, blown away by political winds where calm air is called for.

Certainly there is honest disagreement about where guns belong. They're strictly banned from schools. Members of the West Bend Library Board that decided on the ban did so, several said, because they compared the child-friendly library with schools. But not all library boards are on the same page.

West Bend's library director, Sue Cantrell, said based on her survey of libraries, the majority was aligned with West Bend's first decision, but she found a surprising number that took the opposite stand.

The Milwaukee Public Library board, for example, instituted a similar ban. My hometown library board in Waukesha didn't.

Agree or disagree on guns in libraries, it's the meddlesome groupthink attitude through politically charged appointments and primacy of gun rights that's worrisome, in my book.

It is amazing how this liberal can define her intolerance of gun carriers as tolerance.

Some knee-jerk Liberal anti-gunner vomits on paper and calls it an article.

If someone is asking you if you have a gun in your pocket, you ain’t carrying concealed right.

“They're strictly banned from schools.”

A legacy of the Clinton administration. This should be reversed at the first opportunity, but do not expect Rinos to even consider it.

Imagine that! In a place where one can exercise First Amendment rights, one can also exercise Second Amendment rights.
