JAMESTOWN, N.D. — Road work on two emergency routes in central North Dakota is being delayed because of possible bird nesting, a county commissioner says.

Officials want to raise the roadbed of the former Highway 10 in western Stutsman County because the road has been repeatedly flooded. Its dirt roadbed is now surrounded by water.

How disruptive is it to a “POSSIBLE” bird’s nest to pour a couple inches of gravel on an existing roadbed?

Must be one hell of a bird nesting site.

The birds must be nearing extinction.

It’s funny when we grind up all kinds of Eagles, and Owls and other birds in the Windmill electrical generators every day and yet they cannot build a road because of a few birds.

Totally misplaced.

Here we go with a tempest in a tea cup. It neither sounds as if the roads are impassable or that there is any emergency. There seems to be no attempt to stop the upgrade only delay it a couple few weeks. Heck, they might even reduce the bug population. The nesting habits appear to have been known for a long time. If this were a moratorium or situation that could delay the repairs for a long time then by all means lets have a fight.

Also what is odd is that we could put 10,000 of these

In the same space occupied by one of these

And never harm any birds.

You could put 50 of them on the roof of a downtown building, and no one would even know they were there.

You could put 10 of them on those very tall FREEWAY LIGHTS, and they could provide most of their own electricity.

You could put at least 4 of them on the sides of every highway overpass, and they would mostly be powered by the rush of wind from passing vehicles.
