Crews in northern Colorado braced for powerful fire-fanning winds as they battle a blaze that has scorched about 85 square miles of mountainous forest land and destroyed at least 181 homes, the most in state history.

The destructiveness of the High Park Fire burning 15 miles west of Fort Collins surpassed the Fourmile Canyon wildfire, which destroyed 169 homes west of Boulder in September 2010. PHOTOS: High Park Wildfires Whip Through Colorado

More than 1,630 personnel worked on the fire Saturday, officials said in a late-night news release. That was an increase of more than 100 firefighters from a day earlier.

Hundreds of people have lost homes to fire this week.

What has Obamugabe done?

1. Puffed himself up in a speech about the economy. 2. Granted amnesty to illegals. 3. Golfed for the 100th round since he seized power. 4. Raised millions of dollars for himself.

Colorado, you need to remember in November.

So should the rest of America.

I know this: if BUSH had been golfing while homes were being destroyed, the drooling morons at the alphabet networks would give a damn.

I’m sure he’ll be addressing it this week with a speech, a photo op and a promise.

Forest Service takes such good care of the forest

Bark Beetles Kill Millions of Acres of Trees in West (2008)

In Wyoming and Colorado in 2006 there were a million acres of dead trees. Last year it was 1.5 million. This year it is expected to total over two million.

Firefighting fleet grows with eyes on summer — and beetles

President Barack Obama, prodded by Western lawmakers, signed a bill on Wednesday authorizing four more large air tankers to fight wildfires this summer and to relieve the stress on an aging fleet.

The move was especially welcome in Colorado, where the state’s largest wildfire in 25 years could still be in its infancy and where forests killed by bark beetles could explode if fires take hold there.
The beetle epidemic “could be a major factor” in terms of what happens this summer, Mike Ferris, a National Incident Fire Center spokesman, told msnbc.com. “You’ve got millions of acres of dead standing timber” not just in Colorado but across much of the West.

This year is running behind last year in terms of acres burned, but “we’re still early in the fire season and just now starting an uphill climb,” noted Ferris.
The bill allows the U.S. Forest Service to contract for up to seven new large air tankers, three this year and four next year.

They might just be better off letting those forests burn in hopes of killing off the bark beetles that infest them. The infestation is unbelievable —

Remember the old saying “for want of a nail a (horse) shoe was lost”?

Here in CO it’s “For want of a few pounds of DDT a forest was lost”

Due to the lack of using DDT to stop the wholesale killing of our forests by bealtes, the whole of CO is stoked, primed, and just waiting for some illegal or Forest Service Worker to strike a match.

I predict this is NOTHING compared to 2013, 2014, 2015. There will be fires so MASSVIE they will be described as something never before seen by man.

We are going to look like Utah, but without the beauty.

Enviro Nazi’s can hardly contain their glee.

You are actually correct. It has gone so far beyond control that about the only way to stop it is by fire.

This is what happens when we let the forest circus get infiltrated by enviro nazis. And believe me, they have got control of the WHOLE thing.

Take the dam lands away from them and turn those lands back to the counties.

There’s a fire in the direction of the Lake George area (probably a little south of there and further to the east now) starting to look nearly like a Hayman event: huge, but not quite that large, yet. So maybe the Lake George fire isn’t out after all. It’s blowing pretty hard (40 mph wind or so, off and on, and dry). Far from here but very visible. I reckon the Teller County basin will be choking on smoke tonight.

Agreed on cutting federal offices and spending, but the counties would need to be cut then, too. County governments would probably continue spending on gambling, whoring and robbing ranchers and builders.

They’re calling it the “Springer fire” while claiming it’s a different one. “New fire...” Uhuh. Yeah. Sure.

There’s a lady my wife works with whose son got blown up twice in Afghanistan, her other son had an almost fatal motorcycle crash, her daughter committed suicide and last week her house burned down in the fire near Ft. Collins, Co. Now THAT is some hard times.

Tough when they change the name of a fire.

Lake George fire forced the evacuation of a large Boy Scout camp and more.
