So much so that there are sometimes unintended consequences.

Not very long ago (a week or two perhaps) there was a thread on FR about a person who was so sure that nature had made a mistake, that he has his plumbing "fixed" to that of a woman.

They fixed it so well that "she" got pregnant. "She" then tried to sue the doctors for making "her" what "she" wanted to be - a functional "woman."
