This should be interesting...I hear the ‘f’ word dozens of times on a daily basis here in New England...kind of like an official ‘State Word’; I guess.
My mother taught me that those who used those words used them because of their shortcomings in vocabulary.
Back in my day (50s & 60s) we controlled rampant public cursing by simply knocking the crap out of them if they did not shut up when told to do so.
However, that was before men were physiologically castrated and domesticated.
Now, we could not harm a hair on their head. We just pass laws that they would ignore.
I never once heard my parents utter the F-word. They certainly didn’t refrain from directing verbal abuse in our direction when we messed up, but they never swore. I have started watching some shows that had both sexes swearing like sailors with casual abandon. And then I stopped watching. I expect to hear certain segments of the population swear. On the Sopranos, it was to be expected. On shows about middle or upper class people, it is not, and I won’t watch anything that depicts them as doing so.
